I am saving my money for when I move to Canada. I mean, I have given $2000.00 this cycle and HE IS NOT FIGHTING BACK!!!!!!!
Yeah. Giving money to politicians. Let me get right on that.
Broken link, dude.
done and done, 30 bucks last night
Yep. This shit is getting scary.
@2, I gave, Poe. But yeah, I tend to ship most of my lucre to the hookers on Craigslist.
It won't let me donate a dollar?!
You know, I would donate to the campaign if they stopped sending me e-mails every fucking day asking for money.
I've been tything since last November - but I just tossed some extra change to MoveOn so support their huge voter registration drive. I think the winner is going to come down to voter turn-out.
You're throwing your money down a hole. Barack has turned out to be just another spineless loser.
There is no hope for this country anymore.
I did today too!
We're too damn close to victory.
Snark: Your excuse is LAME.
I'm already x grand in to his campaign, and some smaller amounts to voter drives, etc. I'll give more over time.
And to people who complain about how he's running the campaign: CALM DOWN. The "real" election season (defined as when most people are paying attention) has been going for all of 9 days now. We have a LONG time to go. Take a breath, wait for the real GOP dirty tricks to come: he'll respond in time. What's he going to do? Go nuts and be seen as panicking at the mere pick of an unknown? That the mere selection of some unknown governor unravels his entire campaign ?
I think he needs to save some aces (Powell endorsement?) for when he needs them. Yes, he needs to fight, and Yes he needs to not be Kerry. But give him time to run his race. He beat the Clintons; I can't believe he can't handle McCain.
Perhaps you should point us to an appropriate 527 group that's an attack dog surrogate for the dems. Personally, I think obama shouldn't fight back at all, that's what the nonprofits are for, so Obama can appear "above the fray" like bush was in 2004 with the swift boat people. "Longtime Washington Veterans for Truth", anyone?
What's moveon.org doing these days?
what took you so long? at least get my website right.
Ditto to snark @8... I'm starting to feel like there's a panhandler in my inbox. I'm tired of "Joe" and "Michelle" and "Barack" all sending me e-amils that just say "blah blah blah, the big scawy wepubwicans are attacking us SO DONATE MONEY NOW!!!!"
I'll totally vote for Obama,I'll tell other people to vote for him, but I'm not giving him a whole bunch of my hard earned money.
I just got an e-mail in my inbox about a video attacking Palin for supporting the Bridge to nowhere. They want people to watch the video and donate $5.
It's a rich man's world?
@8 and 15
You can request to be removed from the campaign email list. I think it may tell you how to make the request at the bottom of the emails.
Good thing he flip flopped on public financing... (The liar.)
I know people are ignoring emails from the Obama campaign, but this is a real way to help.
I've donated thousands to the campaign. I'll end up donating the max. It's an investment. Buck up with the coin, sloggers.
Sarcasm aside, @19, I'm GLAD he reconsidered the golden handcuffs of "public" matching funds. I'd rather see him elected on the individual donations of over two million individuals (and counting), with an average contribution under $200.
That's democracy.
I made my fourth contribution to his campaign on Friday. I'll give more by month's end and in mid-October. Pony up, people!
i sent them gwyneth paltrow's head in a box.
just for shits and giggles.
Are you contribuing under another name, Dan?
You're not showing up on http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com/ a handy tool for checking up on friends who claim to be donating to the campaigns. :)
Donated $500 last week, and will donate more as long as business is good.
PS: I just watched your appearance on Real Time. Dude - nice job! You were sharp, funny, and telegenic.
Done that, also did Three Dollar Bill Cinema, KEXP, the Red Cross... those are good, too!
My office mates and I are all planning to donate on payday tomorrow. Of course, our piddling donations won't do much to counteract the the thousands the owner of the company gives the the Republicans, but we'll do what we can.
And by the way, none of us has ever financially supported a political campaign before. But this is too important to stand on the sideline.
@24: The donor database "is updated according to the reporting schedule set by the FEC." Not sure how often that is, but it's clearly not daily.
Donated $50, first time I've ever donated to a campain. Might end up being the last.
While you're at it, also "Donate $9 on 9/9 for Food Lifeline."
Yup, me too - just donated for the first time ever.
Let's all pony up cash, but let's not forget to get out there and talk to people rationally, help register voters, whatever else we can do!
Get out there and talk to people you might not normally interact with; that's what will make the difference.
newsmeat.com is also a means for tracking political donations.

Hi Dan,
I'm worried about Andrew Sullivan. He's just posting pictures of flowers, sunsets and Desperate Housewives clips. And muttering in German.
He's your friend. Could you please check in on him? I'm worried about him... Worried that Palin may have caused his head to explode or something...
Thanks,
Signed: "Concerned"
I donated for the second time on the first day 538 showed McCain ahead.
Look on the bright side: If the Democrats lose this election, with one of the most promising politicians in a generation as the candidate, then it will be the end of the party. It will prove that the Democrats are not viable on a national level. The duopoly will be over, finished, kaput.
Democrat ... it's the new Whig.
Sent 'em $25 (And dammit, that's a lot for a student).
Basically I'm buying my complaining rights.
@12 & @21...Amen!
@35 - I think it is time that we stopped blaming the Democrats for the Democrats losses. It is time to recognize that there are A LOT OF REALLY MISGUIDED PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES WHO KEEP VOTING REPUBLICAN.
The blame is on Americans folks. We aren't what we thought we were.
Sullivan is on PTO with his husbear...leave him alone.
Dan Savage is your new David Plouffe.
@38 -
I think it is time that we stopped blaming the Democrats for the Democrats losses.
Ha ha ... That's a good one!
Did you really just say that?
It's the same playing field it's always been, and the Republicans are better at playing the game. It's true, Americans (particularly white, working-class Americans) vote against their own self-interest. It's phenomenal when you think about it.
But, how can you not blame the Democrats for being unable to reverse this trend?
As I said, if Obama doesn't win, then the Democrats are finished as a national party.
People are starving all over this country, I'm struggling to pay my bills, and you put probably as much money as I make in a month into some guy's overloaded warchest.
Fuck you, Dan.
@41,
No fucking way. The Republicans will be finished. Think of the nightmare that will unfold under McCain, or likely Palin. The Republicans are already on their way down. A Republican administration during what may be one of the hardest times this country has seen in 60 years will be the end of the Republican Party.
And that will be my only solace if McCain manages to win.
Your donation will be dwarfed by that of the average numbers runner.
You libs are so dumb because I said so ha look at me - I am a genuis! Don't you know that obama is black!
Ralph Waldo Emerson said "What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say"
Align your actions with your beliefs and support change in your world, but REALLY support change. Quit griping about how fucked up the country is, forgo lattes for a month or so, give up some free time on a weekend and volunteer with a local voter registration drive, inconvenience yourself a little.
I believe Gandhi said "BE the change you want to see in the World" not "incessantly bitch and kvetch about the people who have the balls to put themselves out there and actually try to do something about it"
We won't support spineless NO-Bama and will re-defeat him in November !!! Go Hillary 2012 !!
You people disgust me.
I just complained on Eli's post about the racist commercial that it didn't end with this link. I shouldn't have to slog half way through slog before I get to the pitch, the penny jar should rattle every hour on the hour.
Omg, I just did 5 minutes ago, which is 5 minutes before I read this post.
@43 If this were a rational world, I would agree with you. We're just finishing up 8 years of the worst President in US history. His approval rating is 28%. The Republicans should not be a viable party NOW. Yet, here they are, competitive and in the race.
I really wish the Libertarians would have some success. Most Republicans that I know are really Libertarians at heart. Taxes are the only issue they care about. The Bible thumper/fiscal conservative marriage is fragile, at best. Until that divorce happens (and, until Palin came along, it was happening this year), the Republicans will be a competitive party.
Regardless of who wins, the system needs shaking up. It's a travesty that Ohio gets to decide who the President is every election.
Yeah, I donated-I thought. Apparently in my crazed state to see President Barack Obama flashed across the world-I somehow donated money to some guy who emailed me, thanking me for helping him meet his donation goal for Obama-I mean seriously, wtf
I just did as well (and before I read the post). $50 - probably won't tip the scales, but I'm back in school and have no income....
Me, too.
And some more to Move-On.
Hopefully, all our small contributions will make one BIG one.
