Well, he SAYS he'll "do anything", but what I want to know is, will he eat a bug, if that's what it takes to get you a better deal?

ever since peggy noonan and her cohorts were caught on that hot mic, i can't get the words "gimicky" or "cynical" out of my head when i contemplate the mccain campaign.

they're trying to weasel out of the palin debate anyway they can. it's so shady but i don't blame them -- a free 90 minute campaign ad for joe biden would be better for the mccain campaign than letting america see sarah palin try to debate.

@4:

Never happen. The Biden/Palin debate is the political train wreck the entire country has been waiting to see for weeks now. Bailing on it would simply be putting another dozen or so nails in McSame's coffin - and he's having plenty of trouble getting the lid open as it is.

On the other hand, Palin is pretty much a shoo-in to pound a few on her own accord Thursday night, so I guess it's a matter of which horrible scenario the McSame camp now perceives as being the lesser of two evils.

Still, my money is on a "go" for the debate. I'm betting they figure they can spin any of Palin's idiotic ramblings better than they can spin not allowing her to spew any in the first place.

Wasn't Mr McCain being criticised here the other day when people felt he was being disingenous about "putting the country first?" So if he *were* to go to Washington--remember, he's a Senator in office, like Obama and Biden--to work on the financial crisis, how is that not putting the country's interest first? If Mr Obama did the very same thing, he'd be applauded for rising above partisanship. Of course, he can't afford to do any such thing at this point. He's still trying to keep his base together.

How times change ... was it only four years ago that Mr McCain was under consideration as John Kerry's VP running mate? Makes you wonder what happened in the meanwhile? Oh, yeah--being proven right on his position on Iraq.

@7 Hi, paid Republican shill!

Not running for President when you're running for President (and continuing to run for President even though you're saying you're not -- because you're John McCain and everything out of your mouth is a transparent lie) is putting your country first? Yeah, that worked out great for him last week, except for the nobody falling for it part. Oh, and the failing to lead his own party part. And the caving into doing the debate anyway part.

What happened since Kerry considered McCain for his running mate? McCain completely sold out every last principle he might ever have had (which weren't many, considering he's one of the Keating Five and an adulterer/bigamist/gambling addict). McCain should have taken his last chance when it was offered to him, because he sure ain't getting in the White House now.

And keep crying crocodile tears for Obama. It's good to know its killing you that he's destroying McCain on just about every front now. Except that, really, McCain has mostly destroyed himself.

In the end, of course, we still have to overcome Republican election fraud -- but that's why you're so worried about an historic turnout and a landslide victory, aren't you?

Considering that Palin is not needed in any capacity in Washington right now, how would they justify her not showing for a debate?

Well, there's some really important legal issues in Alaska that she needs to take care of.

I think McCain is saying he needs suspenders to hold up his Depends.

Can't we preemptively impeach him?

@#8 ... Gee, I didn't touch a nerve there, did I? Sorry to be disturbing the 'Kum Ba Ya' chorus. It must be very upsetting to recall that John Kerry was considering such a monster to share the ticket with him in '04 despite the Keating business! (which, FYI, was back in the '80s.)

In a state where Christine Gregoire pulled off what she did, I wouldn't go shouting too loudly about stolen elections. No doubt if Dino Rossi had gone to court, he would have been lambasted for that by Democrats. It's only the right thing to do when Democrats like Al Gore and John Kerry do it, right? OK, got it. Thanks.

By the way, if you do know how to get paid for shilling for a party, please let me know. I'd work for the highest bidder.
