McCain Protects Palin From Mean Questions

I wonder how this is going to look to undecided voters. (Sorry about the Discover Card ad beforehand, but there’s no way around it.) To me, it looks like McCain shows up to help Governor Palin with that mean old Katie Couric.

How chivalrous.

McCain looks so uncomfortable when Palin is speaking. It's pretty hilarious.

did Palin just call Pakistan terrorists?

Undecided voters should be told to consider what happens when McCain fucking keels over on January 22nd.

I think the undecided voter is going to think McCain is creepy as hell and that Palin can't be trusted to speak in public.

Points to Hooker Heels for finally getting a few talking points right, but that show has already closed.

I know I'm supposed to be creeped out by the Palin interview, but given today's economic climate, I'm more creeped out by the Discover card ad. "We're a nation of consumers. And there's nothing wrong with that."

Wow... UNcomfortable. So now she needs a protector? I think McCain spoke more than she did. Condescending bastard. If she is truly qualified, ready, and able (I could care less about the "willing" party), she needs to be able to meet the press alone. This only reinforces the image of a daughter accompanying her daddy to talk to the college admissions office-- there's no chance she'd get admitted to the electoral college on her own.

@12--Yup, a nation of consumers. That's one creepy, poorly timed ad.

And Couric sitting there while McCain airquotes her expertise and calls her a gotcha journalist? Damn. The entire original interview, Couric looked like she was trying her best not to threaten Palin. I kept thinking, "Wow, someone told her to play nice". Clearly, she wasn't nice enough and now she's being schooled.

You're not going to have McCain there to protect you during the debate. What's going to happen then?

She's a fucking gold mine.

Today on the bus, though, I overheard two people talking about these Palin videos.

Friend 1: "Man, I've been watching those Katie Kouric videos of Palin. Sure she's a retard. But why aren't they going after Michelle Obama like that?"

Friend 2: "Palin isn't McCain's wife. Palin is his VP choice..."

Friend 1: "Oh, I guess that makes sense."

Oof.

Bloody hell, that was horrible. At least I learned something - I didn't know that "gotcha journalism" meant actually assuming candidates meant what they said.

Jesus christ. These two are like a comedy show. And how many fucking times is McCain going to talk about Reagan?

So who is going to play McCain for the Saturday night Live spoof?

Oh god if only Steve Martin was still relevent and funny.

Is this the same candidate who has been running on a campaign about Obama's lack of experience, now citing Regan and Clinton as examples of successful presidents who had little experience?

And how is answering a question posed by a voter an example of "gotcha journalism"? In fact, what is "gotcha journalism" anyway? Any coverage of Palin is "gotcha" journalism, because she always gets got!

@19: Everybody's name-checking Reagan these days, including him on their list of Great Presidents. Every time I hear it, I think "Jesus, I hope you like Reagan. You're still paying for him."

The Reagan era is where our country really started to go completely off the rails.

Was this one of the other embarrassing clips that CBS said it had? Or is there still more?

The comments on the cbs link are depressing. I am retreating back to my Slog bubble now.

Hoh-lee smokes.

Palin has gotten so little exposure it is impossible to not think that she is Tina Fey the whole time she is talking.

I'm feeling a LOT better about the election. But not better enough to stop me from volunteering in Nevada.

Is it just me or was Grampy McCane really trying to come across as everyone's favorite sitcom grandpa? It was like he was trying to make up for his sneering angry debate performance.

What a loser.

I think one of my favorite things is Katie Couric's head-tilt. It is like she does it to keep from losing it and going, "what the heck is going on here??? Do you people listen to yourselves? This is bullshit. Total bullshit."

Also note that Palin's smile lessened a bit when Katie Couric pointed out certain facts to her. It was like a contest of Miss America smiles between the two of them. Also known as "Bitch, Please" smiles.

Did anyone else that McCain is still looking at Palin's breasts? You think after the previous YouTube video someone would have taken him aside...

Come on people. Poor little Sara deserves to be protected by Grandpa McCain. Katie Couric is a known sexist after all.
