Why is this news?

People die near Northgate and in White Center all the time.

Thank god none of you slog-fucks live near Tacoma or Federal Way or we'd have to read this crap every night.

I don't get either of you.

Because you listen to the MSM, sy. The reality is that shooting go on all the time both inside and just outside Seattle city limits, but the MSM only reports it when it's wealthy neighborhoods or near their cameras.

You really need to get out more.

Will, again, you're talking out of your ass. P-L-E-A-S-E S-T-O-P

The shooting happened about 6 blocks from my apartment. This isn't an area where you hear a lot of gunshots. If you look at the census tract crime trends, it's got a low-level of crime on par with Magnolia or Alki.

People do not die here "all the time."

Will,

Just to add to what Jonah said, you can't
even begin to use Northgate in the same sentence with White Center (or the CD, or Skyway, or Hilltop in Tacoma) with regard to violent crime, let alone Maple Leaf. People don't even shoot off safe and sane fireworks here on the 4th of fucking July, for heaven's sake.

As a Maple Leaf resident, this shooting worries me not at all - it sounds like two dumbasses who had a personal grudge or money/drug/girlfriend dispute going on, and I think the threat to the Maple Leaf (and yes, Northgate) neighborhood at large is pretty much nonexistent.

You really can file this one under surprising headlines you never expected to read....

I was trying to give a nearby location near Maple Leaf, fwiw. But you'd know that, just like you'd know where you can find chainlink fences and pit bulls, if you knew anything about this city.

But hey, stay in your "safe" neighborhood and believe the fake news on the Tube.

You should all look at this:

And watch this:

We live in one of the safest societies on earth during the safest time ever to be alive. You are less likely to be killed now than ever before.

Why are people such pussies now that we're so safe?

@10: Because we're bored enough to worry.

So you can't be bothered to do a single post on Nickelsville, but you can take time out to write up crap like this?

Greg Niccles is too busy rounding up heterosexuals to worry about things like "crime" and "shootings".

Either cover every shooting (yes even the ones where the poorer less hip people who don't work for The Stranger live) or shut the fuck up and stop making stuff "news" just because something happens to, or near, one of the writers.

It's like Dan Savage's little pit bull fetish. I'm sure there's more dangerous imminent threats to society but we have to put up with this shit because he's probably traumatized from getting barked at when he was a kid.

This is why as good as your writing is (Stranger-folk) the people from the PI and Times wipe their asses with your paper. You're activist journalists with no real direction other than the writer's personal vendettas or whatever effects their tiny world. Seriously, get the fuck out of your shells and go cover actual news stories. Have any of you ever even been to Bellevue? Maybe then you'd know the town is being taken over by a Mormon real estate baron, Kemper Freeman Jr. How about stop bitching about the evangelicals in red-states and start covering the ones who live 30 minutes outside of the city who might push the election toward Rossi (instead of bloggin' about how you saw a Gregoire sign in a window down the street from your Mom's house). Maybe an article on how the UW is trying to swindle $150 million of tax payer's money so they can make Husky Stadium more comfortable for crotchety old alumni to sit on their asses and pretend they like football. ...I don't know, whatever, I'm sure there's tons of shit out there but this isn't my fucking job, it's yours.

in seattle, there were 24 homicides in 2007. that's two a month in alllll of seattle. it doesn't happen even close to "all the time."

14: I'm a huge fan of Kemper Freeman. For two decades he had the guts to stand up to Sound Transit and proclaim that a rapid bus system is far more suited to this region than the Light Rail Swindle.

I'd love to see not only Rossi ousting Liboire, but maybe Kemper Freeman as King County Exec and some other Republican stealing the Mayor's seat.

It's time for Republican Reformists to sweep the hoary Libs out of West Wash politics.

What Mr. X said.

The KOMO story does not refer to "Maple Leaf" but instead "North Seattle." Maple Leaf is south of the 9700 block of 5th Avenue.

In addition, the Northgate area is typically infested with transient criminals and radicals with bad haircuts. I live in Maple Leaf and it's character remains as one of the city’s finer communities with high sense of decorum and civic pride.

As many of you have pointed out, crime in the Northgate neighborhoods (Pinehurst, Victory Heights, Maple Leaf, etc) is one of the lowest rates in the city of Seattle. This is an anomaly.

Careful about giving out your location Jonah...there are some crazy bullies out there.

Next thing you know, I'll be walking my pit bulls down your block. GASP!

Oh. Never mind. Your neighborhood sounds a little sketchy for my family:)But Divine sure has a great brunch on the weekends.
