John McCain: He Wants to Make it Easier for Sexual Predators to Rape Your Children

It’s good to know that someone can land a punch. Check out Planned Parenthood’s response to McCain’s dishonest ads attacking Obama’s vote on a sex education bill in Illinois:

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund paid for this ad. Maxed out your donations to Obama? Or would you rather give your money to someone that can land a fucking punch? Donate to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund here.

Awesome. And why isn't Obama running ads like this?

Yeah, this ad is great. I think that Obama might be letting the 527s rip apart McCain and Palin for now. With Biden going on the attack and the Democrats focus on actual issues, I think we'll have nothing to worry about.

this ad is confusing to me.. the legislation was about sex offenders right?

I think it's not being explicit enough (har har) when it says '..supported legistlation to teach children how to protect themselves'

evangelicals hear 'sex', 'protect' and think 'condoms', not 'sex offenders', right?

Another solid Democratic punch landed on this issue. It kicks in around 90 seconds in.

Here's the parent (no pun intended) link, which you can see at the end of the video:

Check out the site. Lots of cool anti-McAncient stuff, including some text accompanying their ad:

Here's some more background:

In 2003, Planned Parenthood worked with Illinois state legislators to introduce the bill highlighted in Senator McCain’s negative ad. The bill, SB 99, would have taught kindergartners how to recognize inappropriate touching and how to defend against sexual predators. In addition, the bill “was supported by a coalition of education and public health organizations, including the Illinois Parent Teacher Association, the Illinois State Medical Society, the Illinois Public Health Association and the Illinois Education Association” (The New York Times, 9/11/08).

Bill SB 99 of the 2003 Illinois Legislative Session explicitly states, “Course material and instruction shall teach pupils to not make unwanted physical and verbal sexual advances and how to say no to unwanted sexual advances and shall include information about verbal, physical, and visual sexual harassment, including without limitation nonconsensual sexual advances, nonconsensual physical sexual contact, and rape by an acquaintance.”

@1 - Obama's not running ads like this himself because his strategy people aren't dumb, they learned their lesson from 2004. Remember when all those "veterans for truth" were attacking Kerry and his patriotism? After the "campaign finance reform" a few years back, the game changed. It no longer makes sense to waste your hard earned campaign dollars on nitty gritty attack ads that could backfire or not work at all. Why not have a surrogate with unlimited funding capability take care of that for you while also giving you deniability. Remember how Bush condemned the swift boat people after it became too unpopular, but he didn't actually shut them down, he couldn't, and probably didn't want to, they were doing his dirty work. But at least he could appear to denounce them while also reaping the benefits of their work.

Wait. The Kerry approach (not firing back, not standing up to the bullying liars) worked?

They learned their lesson from 2004? And that's why they're fighting back? So they can lose like Kerry?

@9 Read it again. He said the Bush approach worked.

That shit pisses me off so fucking much. Some predators can get away with molesting several to dozens of children before they get caught. And why is that? Because the kids don't speak up.

Fuck McCain. Fuck him up the ass.

Oh, and props to Planned Parenthood. Maybe I should take Dan's advice and get a second job to support the cause.

I agree it's a good ad.

I'd max out to Obama first before putting money into 527's. Obama has a better idea of where the money needs to be spent. 527's land a good punch once in a while, but for every good punch there's a lot of flailing around.

It's smart for Obama to let the 527s do the dirty work. His whole campaign is built around a positive message of hope. If he himself starts participating in vicious ads, it undercuts his positive message. This way he can stay on the positive hope message, and let surrogates do the nasty work.

i have nothing but good things to say about PPNYC. I've not had as much experience with the national planned parenthood, but the nyc PP is fucking awesome. Their services and health professionals are great. Their ads here are always right on, perfect tone, not political, just directly humane. Kudos to all the ad firms and designers who work with them!
