Sounds like they were agreeable cab customers.

I wish I could have been at pike place market when he was dropped off. I would have loved to have some words with him and spit on his shoes. Asshole.

@1 and 4: As much as I might hate him politically, why get all up in his grille when he's out with his wife as a private citizen?

@6 Umm...that was sarcasm, buddy. It's not like any cabbie would actually sacrifice their own life just to drive the Liebermans off a bridge...or would they?

demo kid @6,

Lieberman, above all else, is an attention whore. He gets himself on any news/opinion show he can. He got HUGE publicity by snubbing his own (former) party and endorsing McCain at the republican convention. He is, by his own design, a huge public figure.

You cannot turn privacy on and off like a switch, whenever you want. If you build your entire life around being an attention whore, sometimes you'll get attention when you don't necessarily want it.

Tough shit.

$21 for a ride from the Silver Cloud to the market? Traffic? There must have been a four-car fatal right in front of the cab that kept it trapped on Fairview for an hour!

A better headline would have been "Joe Lieberman: Tips like a Normal Person".

An 18% tip is pretty standard... "15% and round up" is sort of my standard rule (unless I get help with bags, etc.)? I don't know, something about "average tipper" just has a negative connotation...

His tip was 18.48% of the fare. What would have been more appropriate? Eli, how much would you or Erica have tipped?

Eli, doesn't real news interest you anymore? You've posted a lot of gossip and rumors of late. We're all going to refer to you now as Cindy or Liz.

I bet it was the University Village Silver Cloud Hotel they were staying at, and I bet the Montlake Bridge was "open" for about 10 minutes on a recent sunny sunday afternoon at about 12:15 pm. That way it would seem very plausible that it would have been a $21.10 fare. I bet they weren't bothered by the traffic standstill on 25th Avenue NE where there was little to no chance to do a U-turn back up to NE 45th street. I bet they took it in stride and used it as an excuse to hold hands for most of the 20 minute trip, and to whisper sweet war-mongering nothings into each others ears. I bet they even called this cab driver back for a return trip to the University Village, but that the driver was busy with another fare, whereby Joe left a message on his voicemail (saved for 30 days). I bet Steve Forbes once tipped this driver $1.80 on a $4.20 fare, and that Kirby Puckett once tipped him $5.80 on a $4.20 fare. Get yer calculators out. I bet his dentist (at the time) once tipped him $0 on a $12 fare, and that now she is no longer his dentist.

I'm not sure if Mr. E. @18 is Joel Severson or not, but either way, it's the best comment of the thread.

(Though Julie @11 runs a very close second.)
