The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was good, and forced me to think about cutting down my cholesterol.

We received Heat and Requiem for a Dream at the same time, and opted to get a Hollywood Video account rather than watch either of them.

Oh, God, I had a couple of DVDs out for thesis research that just sat on my TV stand for about four months. I finally just returned them and canceled my account, and now I get movies from the library for free.

I need to watch Hot Fuzz this weekend, damn it. I was going to last weekend, but then there was a lot of football, Bumbershoot, and a Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon on...

DB+BF is really really good and not too depressing. It's beautiful.

I have two movies I got from a roommate who moved out and left them, 1.5 years ago, and I haven't gotten around to them yet. For some reason Munich or 4 Rooms can't make it into my player.

I had a copy of Hotel Rwanda for about six weeks that I eventually returned, unwatched...I feel a little less guilty about that now. But just a little.

Hot Fuzz sucked

But I want to determine whether it sucks for myself, instead of taking the word of some random Internet person.

Which one is Netflix again? Is that the one where you get everything for free and the artists get exposure for when you graduate and get a job? No, wait. That's Napster. Whatever.

Free movies! Cool.

Hey Paul, why don't you just go stick your head in the sand some more? How's the world look through those rose-colored glasses?

DBATB is really really good. Hot Fuzz does really really suck. I am actually pretty good with my netflix. Since I am paying for it, and turnaround time on mailing is 3 days, I really try and watch them right away. Like when Trailer Park Boys arrives, I watch every episode, then the extras, then I put it right back in the mail on my bike ride to work, so I know I will have the rest of the season before too long. I have a lot more trouble with movies/books I am borrowed. That shit sits around FOREVER. Until I have to give it back, then I scramble. I think you can't look too far into some movies based on their theme or what you hear, you gotta just watch that shit. Cause most of the time, those tidbits are incomplete and its never what you expect, unless your asshole friend spoils it. Blah.

Paul, you, of all people, should see The Diving Bell & the Butterfly.

You will love it. You will find it... peacefulizing? I want to make up a word for it, I find it so wonderful.

...and should you ever get around to watching it - you'll be exhausted from having learned the French alphabet - so audibly different from English. You'll wonder why the nurses just didn't hold up flash cards; BTW get some Viscine for your one good eye. The movie makes a terrific argument for the right off yourself - but by the time you blink your desires, you'll have expired from that effort - so maybe not.

Those two actually inspired me to cancel my Netflix subscription.

that's funny. I think the only movie I kept longer before Hotel Rwanda was The Last King Of Scotland. But loved both, eventually.

The ones that I never get around to watching are Foreign movies which I feel are "important."

"Why the fuck did I get Yojimbo again? The Fireman's Ball? When the fuck am I going to watch that?"

Maybe it's just me, but yeah, I've gone home after work and put on Schindler's List (or the Pianist). They're exhausting to watch, and tell awful stories, but the fact they're so beautifully made makes me feel better than the thought of sitting through another Joel Schumacher fiasco.

Both Hotel Rwanda and Requiem For a Dream are on my list of "Great movies I can never watch again." I also have a list of "Interesting movies I can't watch when my wife is around because she will complain about the subtitles;" Yojimbo and Zatoichi have been sitting on top of my TV for two weeks now.

I saw Hotel Rwanda in the theatre with a friend during my senior year of high school, after we had taken our AP English test in the morning and thus felt perfectly warranted in leaving school for the rest of the day. I think it made us feel smart and cultured to go see a movie like that while cutting class. Anyway, it's a great movie.

I finally returned Chinatown last week after having it out from Netflix for about a year. I still didn't watch it. The thing is, a textbook for my screenwriting class went on at length about the ending and why it's so perfect, and it's just hard to convince myself to watch it when I already know how it ends.

@23: You should watch Chinatown to get it over with, and then watch The Two Jakes because it's a better movie.

@23 I, shockingly, watched Chinatown within a reasonable amount of time of receiving it. It was way mediocre. Like, it's a detective story, which can sometimes be fun, but Law & Order is on free all day. Also, I am so tired of incest, it's just not even funny.

I returned "The Saddest Music in the World" unwatched. I've got "Happiness" sitting there now, and I have on the word of someone I trust that it's great. I just really can't stand watching movies that are over 2 hours long. I hate feeling like I'm committed to the TV for that long, which is why I prefer to watch televisions shows. Even if I'll watch 4 hours in one sitting, it's knowing that it's broken up that makes the difference. I wish they'd bring back the intermission in movies.
