Found Two More!

Slog tipper Laura Dunlap emailed me a picture of this Gregoire sign at 11th and Howell…

And a few minutes later she emailed me a picture of this Gregoire sign at 14th and Howell…

gregoiresign3xxx.jpg

But here’s the weird thing: I bike down 14th every day on my way to work and take a right at Howell, head down to 11th, where I take a left on my way to Pine. And you know what? These Gregoire signs weren’t there this morning.

Weirder still: Moments before the first picture arrived from Laura Dunlap, I was staring out my office window at the boys playing soccer in Cal Anderson Park. Then I noticed a woman jump out of a car at Pine and 11th, carry a Gregoire sign to the small patch of grass by the traffic light, briefly stick it in the ground, think about it for a second, remove the sign, walk back to her car, and head off down 11th in the direction of Howell.

Curious about the sudden appearance of these signs along my commute, and the woman who reconsidered planting a Gregoire sign across the street from our offices, I Googled “Laura Dunlap” and “Gregoire” only to discover that Ms. Dunlap is not an impartial observer of political yard signage in our area, but the contact person for the Gregoire campaign’s King County field office.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I have to say that I’m impressed by the responsiveness of the Gregoire campaign. I wasn’t seeing any Gregoire signs early today, as I wrote on Slog this morning, but I’m going to see bunches on my way home from work tonight.

But, um, gee… I’m wondering how the Gregoire camp knows the route I bike to work and back every day? And I’m wondering if Laura Dunlap, while she’s out with those yard signs, could be so kind as to drop one off in front of my house?

UPDATE: My boyfriend called to let me know that someone just put a Christine Gregoire yard sign in front of our house. Thanks, Gregoire campaign!

I was impressed at the dominance of Burbank's yard signs over Carlyle's in the 36th. Until Burbank lost and I realized yard signs don't mean much.

To change the subject to something that matters, who is interested in political yard signs of reusable and sustainable materials? Paper is not good, plastic is bad, and Styrofoam is horrible. Can't we do better?

Didn't Burbank have a slightly higher percentage then Carlyle in the primary? In any case, you can't really say he lost, since they're both in the general.

And now I know why no one in Seattle is putting them up: the terrible design! What is with those awful mixed fonts?

Dan, you mentioned that particular traffic circle about a dozen times last summer.

I think I'm reading this correctly. A loss, a very palpable loss.

Burbank is going to do even worse in the general. His base is core Democratic activists. The independents and Republicans are going to break for Carlyle in a big way. It's over.

No, Carlyle received 44% compared to the latte tax candidate Burbank who had 40%.

There are a couple of Gregoire signs in my neighborhood (north Ballard). I'll try to take some pictures.

OK, cool. I guess it depends on your definition of loss (Bloss being the only true loser), but Carlyle definitely came in a solid first. I did not know that. Thanks!

Ha. That's hilarious.

I think Reuven Carlyle was shakin' hands and kissin' babies this weekend at the Ballard farmers' market.

I am totally going to take pictures of you riding in front of my house now for my personal use. I hope you get really sweaty and don't wear a helmet..

Somebody wants to ensure slog tipper DJ doesn't have a crabby Daddy at the dinner table tonight - it's a sign - ha - get it?! =)

Signs are significant more in that they show how much the campaign organization is on top of street promotion. It's a little scary to see that in Seattle, they don't seem very on top of it. I wonder how less they are in places like Spokane, Olympia, Ellensburg, etc, where they really need to be to even come close to getting as many votes as Rossi. And I don't see much of a Facebook or Myspace presence either - they love to tie themselves to Obama, they should be using his campaign tactics too.

Wow, Dan is now being stalked by Gregoire signs. If, when you go into your bathroom tomorrow morning suspenseful music starts playing and as you pull back your shower curtain a sign pops out at you...well never mind by then it will be too late.

Like to see Gregoire signage but I do believe it is illegal to post politcal signs in traffic medians. Something about people should be able to see the road and other traffic.

Looking at Facebook it's even worse than I thought - Rossi's Facebook page has 4,427 supporters and Rossi has a neat little yard sign Facebook App. Gregoire has 2,794 "supporters" and no Facebook app. Is Rossi really have that much more of an in touch staff? OMG! That blows.

On MySpace Gregoire has 166 "freinds" while Rossi has over 800. Not earthshattering for either, but assuming Gregoire needs a high percentage of the youth vote, not exactly a good look.

C'mon Gregoire folks, Rossi is kicking your ass campaigning at least online and with yard signs! Get it together!!

I live near 14th and Howell and the sign is still there but facing in a different direction. Maybe they rotate it based on the direction of Dan's commute.

I was in eastern Washington weekend before last and saw giant Rossi signs everywhere. They may be preaching to the choir over there, but then again so are the Gregoire signs on Capitol Hill.

@16 Nano technology in the signs follow Dan's every move.

Your intrepid Eastside iReporter would like to add that there are very few Gregoire signs in her neck of the woods either. But, on the plus side there also aren't an appreciable number of Rossi signs.

On a need-to-know basis - eyes only - and all of that CIA claptrap: Has anyone on this Flog ever voted for a candidate because they saw a yard sign? Seriously. If you have and are willing to admit it, the Republic is in much worse shape than I had imagined. But if it helps: STICK WITH CHRIS SHE ALREADY LIVES IN OLYMPIA!

Yes, all quite amusing.

But, for the truly observant readers of your post, the real question is not about front garden party-political tat.

Rather, the inquisitive mind must bend its focus to the question of whether the Gregoire minions will be up to to the task of placing lanky, floppy-haired soccer players along your bike-route tomorrow.

This humble reporter hopes for an explication here-with, hopefully in the A.M., pursuant to your local meridian.

uh, dude, you're always on here talking about your commute home and you're a creature of habit...you wouldn't be that hard to stalk and if anyone lost your trail after leaving the Stranger offices on your way home from work, all they'd have to do is head to Liberty to pick up your scent.
