Five Countries Where It Sucks to be Gay

posted by on September 16 at 17:40 PM

They’re the five most homophobic places on earth—nations where gays and lesbians are persecuted, prosecuted, even executed. And one of them is a tourist destination popular with Americans. That doesn’t seem right.

Friends don’t let friends vacation in Jamaica.

My partner and I are planning a trip to someplace sunny this winter. We'd already ruled out Jamaica for this reason.

If you elect me and John McCain, when the old man dies in 8 months I will make sure that America is the number one country on that list Dan Savage....you Sodomite!

I would be surprised if even a small number of those resorts are owned by Jamaicans.

Yes @#3, Dubai and the UAE are in this category, and still the corporate world can't plant roots there fast enough. World famous architects have no qualms about taking commissions there. Prominent U.S. elected officials travel there courting investment back home. How long did it take for the South Africa boycotts to work? Me thinks this would take longer.

Jamaica is where older German housewives go to get heterosexually laid.

(Thailand is where their husbands go to fuck children.)

i go to vassar college, a super liberal college in new york state. we had several jamaican reggae artists who wished to perform at our school over the past couple years, but we protested those who had aggressively anti-gay content. unfortunately, a lot of people didn't realize the extent of the anti-gay bias in jamaica, and i'm glad that you guys do. it's super fucked up!

10 years hard labor for being gay? so, basically, jamaica has gay slaves.

I'm heard that Jamaica was really homophobic but I'm surpised it is in the top five. It is hard to believe that it is worse than UAE or all the other countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Yeah but then there are the antidote places http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/love-sex/taboo-tolerance/the-ten-best-places-in-the-world-to-be-gay-in-932557.html and the joy is that I live in one of them.

Come to Sydney and have fun in the sun and enjoy the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras (to use its correct title).

Screw it; if Palin becomes President WHEN (not IF) McCain dies you might all be deported anyway. I say jump before you get pushed.

Freedom is so relative. Some times i feel to totally oppressed here, but on the whole we don't have it so bad.

Yes!! @ # 5!! Granted, some lyrics are inflammatory, but the general nature of Jamaican culture and reggae music is not to discriminate. Jamaicans may need more education about sexual orientation, but they are steeped in christianity and have yet to confront the demons of oppression and slavery...sound familiar? Try to remember that you live in one of the most oppressive empires in the history of the world. You are a part of it too.

There really isn't much of a welcome for homosexuals in any of the Caribbean nations.
The Bahamas are a little more polite about it but not much.

If you want a great Gay vacation destination
Argentina is wonderful, civil unions are recognized and buenos aires is beautiful. Airfares are horrible this year, but their economy about as bad as ours so the dollar goes very far.

Add Sri Lanka to the list of places where it is tough to be gay. Homosex can earn you 8 years in prison. There is a lively traffic in cute beach boys who entrap the unwary in collusion with the local police. They all make a pretty penny from blackmail.

And anywhere in the old Eastern Bloc is pretty crappy as well for that matter.

Now I'm getting a little angry so I'm going to look at fares to Argentina for this winter.

"Maricon." I have Argentinian family, and I don't think that culture is very gay-friendly. Be careful.

I know I will never spend any of my money in Jamaica. And thanks Dan. Make people aware how they can be most effective by making sure their money doesn't support the persecutions.
