I know, huh, "face certain death" I think the weather service fucking means business this time. Even Aaron Brown was taken aback by their decree.

Meanwhile, some poor hotel owner handed the keys to his hotel to a CNN crew and took off. Not sure who is dumber, the hotel owner leaving the CNN crew alone at his hotel or the CNN crew for staying to "face certain death"

Um, not to be picky, but wasn't the exact wording "may" face certain death? I mean, I know the weather service thinks this one's gonna be bad, but they wouldn't say people in the path of the storm straight up face *certain* death.

And I agree with getting a fine. There was a poll on CNN yesterday that asked: Would you ride out a storm even if you were told to evacuate.

14% of people said 'ride out the storm'. THESE PEOPLE ARE THE UNDECIDED'S! I know it.

@8 Actually, looks like it's "only" going to be a category 2 storm in terms of wind speed. Problem is, that scale is only about wind speeds and doesn't say anything about the storm surge. Despite relatively slow winds, Ike is a massive storm in terms of its area and storm surge. It's been clear for a couple of days that the Texas coast is going to see extensive dangerous flooding. I don't think any media have done a good job conveying this. I keep seeing quotes from people staying on Galveston Island, like "It's just some wind and rain!" But Galveston Island is going to be mostly under water tonight.

Waters have already risen substantially here around New Orleans, hundreds of miles from Ike's expected landfall.
