Dreams of My Candidate

Says Slog tipper Reggie…

I had a dream last night where I was talking to Obama. It seemed very surreal. We were in a diner talking to each other for a few minutes about the debate and a couple of other things. You should ask the Slog asking people whether they have dreams about Obama too. My roommate has them and other friends have had them. Before Obama came into the picture politically, I’ve never had a dream about any politician. Since then, I’ve had at least 3-4 of these dreams.

I’ve had dreams about the Queen of England. Never Obama. You?

I had a dream that Obama outright condemned this boondogle bailout of Wall Street. But, alas, it was just a dream.

Nope. Never had a dream with Obama in it.

yep- he was my boyfriend, and we were told by the town elders that we had better learn how to dance properly before he took office. Then we went to a restaurant and ate a whole pot of mussels. mmm.

Jesus Christ, this is weird. Me too. I had a dream that I was at an Obama rally and his five young children (he had five in my dream) sang a little von-trapp-style song about how they loved him. And then the littlest one told him she wished he was around more, and also that she wanted a choco taco. He took off his dress shirt (weird detail), and in his cotton undershirt, picked her up and took her outside. And we all wept. In a nice way.

I had an Obama dream. All I remember is that we were buddies and I felt really cool because of it.

Me too! Very sexy dream, plus it was election night and he won (best part!). The dream ended with Obama plus his family plus a bunch of other inner-circle folks (unidentified) swimming through a pool to get to a stage to celebrate. Bill Clinton was in the audience looking old.

Honest truth: I have a recurring dream where I walk down numerous, endless hallways and enter an office where Elizabeth II is seated, writing. She looks up and asks "for a report." I just start talking nonsense and the dream always ends when I'm mid-sentence...

My girlfriend this morning said she had a dream of watching Obama give his acceptance speech at Seattle Center. We were sitting in a laundry basket. Then tyrranists tried to kill us and take our agricultural knowledge.

I actually had a sex dream about him! We were fooling around in a ship, but before we went all the way he said we needed to stop because if he got caught cheating he wouldn't win the election. I told him he was right, so we got dressed and talked about politics instead.

I've had two dreams about him. In one I was talking to him, in another I was celebrating his landslide victory with my mother.

Being half English, I've often dreamed of the Queen throughout my life. Identifying myself as a Democrat, I'm disturbed by the number of sympathetic dreams I've had of Bush, including being his White House guest. I've woken up liking him.

Can't recall dreaming of other politicos however.

I ran into him in a hotel bar, after a particularly stressful week on the campaign trail (for him). I was smoking. I offered him one, and promised I would never, never tell that he accepted it. And he did.

After I went to a rally, I had a very surreal dream in which Obama was part lion (!) and I was riding on his back through a forest. We ended up at the White House, where he told me that it was my responsibility to watch out for his wife and kids. And then he disappeared!

Last week I dreamt that I saw a TV report about people in some distant land using Obama campaign buttons as a barter item. They were worth about a loaf of bread or something.

Also, at the start of primary season I had some kind of pod people dream where an entire town in Iowa was being replaced by placid doppelgängers. One family (a perfect white 1950s family with Mom, Dad, cute blond older sister, mischievious younger brother) managed to hold out against the agents that were doing this.

They hid in their church basement and found Obama there in a cage! He told the family that he'd visited their town on a campaign stop and been kidnapped... the Obama they'd been seeing on television was his pod person copy.

Obama, the family and their cute dog stole a school bus and drove off into the sunset...

I'm sure all of this has some kind of deep meaning.

Back in January I had a dream that I explained to Obama in very great detail why I supported (in order) Bill Richardson and Hillary Clinton rather than him -- in more detail than I could have done while I was awake.

I was kind of confused when I woke up. And I didn't remember any of my (really great) reasons, either.

No, but I did have a dream that Sarah Palin and some other dudes in suits were chasing me and a few other people through a mall. It was especially hard to get away quickly because we were pushing a car sized brick of ice cream as we fled.

I have the most ridiculously banal and boring dreams. In my dreams, I go to the grocery store, or buy shoelaces, or have to rake the yard. That probably says something about me.

I had a dream that Grampa McCain came into my room when I was almost asleep to read me a bed time story. He actually read it in a very sweet way, doing all the voices you would expect a Grampa might do for his beloved grand-child. He got up to leave and I said, "That was a very nice, well told story; but I'm still voting for Obama." Perhaps it's my subconscious way of dealing with all the lies McCain has said that get so ridiculous they are like fairytales he hopes the American people lap up waiting for their happy ending with him as commander in chief. Yeah. Even my subconscious isn't buying it. I'm still voting for Obama.

I had a dream last night where I was fighting a battle in a dormatory with 12-15 other people my age. We were fighting against Sarah Palin (who looked like the witch from sleeping beauty) and her minions. It was crazy!

I had one that I burst out laughing at something stupid Palin said and she gave me that pursed-lip frown of hers. I only wished I'd added how laughable her way-outside-the-lines Susan Lucci clown lipstick is.

I had an Obama dream a few weeks ago. I was surprised to find myself riding in a car (taxi?) with him and some of his entourage, at night. I was really stunned to find myself sitting next to him. I said something about how excited I was about his campaign, and asked him to please work hard to improve healthcare.

I know it's completely irrational, but I've been much more emotionally invested in this election since having that dream.

This topic is absolutely bizarre, but I must admit that I had an Obama dream last night as well. He gave me a very reassuring, candid talk about the state of the world and how McCain's bitchiness during the debate was the sign that the oil-fueled politicians are scared and fading fast.

Then the details became fuzzy. Perhaps Obama transformed into Jesus or Sarah Palin pranced into view in a valkyrie outfit and I clapped my hands like a toddler at a birthday party. Dunno.

I had one dream where my girlfriend and I were playing basketball against Michell Obama's mother and Charles Barkley, I'm pretty sure. I woke up when we just needed to make a 3-pointer to win and my GF and I were talking about who'd be more likely to make the 3.

Sadly, I only had a dream about Washington Mutual a few nights ago.

(I went in to make something like a $2.50 deposit and all these people were crowding in the branch and cutting in line and pissing me off... I was there for regular business! My 2.50 deposit!)

I had the most incredibly intense sex dream about him .... the sex was some pretty standard vanilla stuff but the dream was so utterly and completely real that it was about thirty seconds after I woke up that I finally realized I wasn't actually his mistress. I'm not even American .... I think I need to pay more attention up here to the election going on in Canada.

I had a dream Obama secretely got back into cocaine and died during the presidential race. For a month after that I felt so stressed every time I watched him on tv because I felt like I was seeing him for the last time.

A friend of mine had a sex dream about W--she was a prostitute and he came up to her asking for sex except he wanted her to talk down to him the whole time. Tell him his dick was small, that he'd never be able to satisfy her, etc. She is a very dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.

Yep, I had an intense one a few months ago. We were in a old brick church under attack by some rednecks driving by shooting guns and throwing firebombs at us. He'd just given a speech that was a bit disappointing and I was giving him advice and moral support. I had a pretty nasty sense of foreboding, but, strangely, was also somewhat hopeful we'd survive.

A few days before the 2004 election I had a dream in which I was watching C-Span call Minnesota for Kerry. I have no idea why, except maybe because I had been listening to Garrison Keillor earlier that day.

My answer to this question shows that I'm a journalist. I've had dreams about being granted interviews with Obama. In one, I was at my parents' house and someone knocked on the door. When I answered, it was an Obama campaign worker who took me to a limo where I had to interview him with no preparation or warning whatsoever.

Odd phenomena. My first dream was that my fundamentalist Christian brother and sister and I joined a group of people chanting "Obama Obama Obama" over and over. This was before Obama became our nominee. And yes, two more dreams where I had a more intimate relationship with the sexy man.

I've had several anxiety dreams about Obama being in danger. The one I remember best - we were in an airport together and he had no security. I saw a guy in the back coming at Obama with a knife and I pushed Obama away and was stabbed in the hand.

I worry about Obama and about our cracker ass cracker country.

A friend of mine has dreams about Bush. She says, "He's a nice guy. He's Uncle George, and he likes potato salad. Though I wouldn't let him baby sit my kids."

Here's an excerpt from my dream journal:

Tuesday, 9/2/08
I was in a hallway with a lot of other people heading to a conference room. Barack Obama was going to be there for a meeting of some kind.

As I was walking, I saw Michelle next to me. I asked her how the children were, and in return she asked me if I had any children. I said no, but that by my age a lot of my relatives had already popped out one or two babies.

We came to the big, windowless conference room. Barack was there in the middle of a group. I knew that at some point I was going to meet him and I wondered what to say.

I recalled a much older dream in which I had refused to shake Bush's hand. When he got offended, I said to him, "You forget yourself, sir. You are the servant of the people, not their master." I thought that relating this anecdote to Obama would not be very appropriate, given the 'servant' and 'master' connotations.

Don’t mix dreams and politics

I dreamed Barack Obama was at this local meeting I went to. I think I was a member of the press or something. When I stood up to address him, I called him "Mr. Bush," and I was all, "Sorry, I didn't mean that," and then I did it again! Strange. And then later, he was walking with me through Georgetown and I was telling him that he's really got to push the issue of creating a global unit of currency, and I was telling him that's the way to erase poverty. He was telling me I needed to focus more in environmental issues, to which I said, "I know, I have to, Mr, Bush. Oops, sorry. My entire generation has grown up knowing we have inherited a world in environmental crisis." uh huh.
