Look, you're right. She is not ready. But:
1. This has never, ever worked as a message to convince anyone not to vote for a pres. candidate.

Evidence: Spiro Agnew. Dan Quayle.

2. All the attention on Palin obscures Obama's message.

OR what it should be.

What is it by the way, anyone know?

He keeps saying he will cut taxes for 95% of taxpayers. What that means to teh average family in Scranton and Youngstown is a huge mystery. Is it a $100 tax cut for the average family? Or $1000?

No one has a clue.

3. I wouldn't focus on experience after OBama spent 19 months blasting the entire concept of experience and kept pointing out "Abraham Lincol dind't have experience, too."

This whole focus does not work.

4. Anyone got a reason why hitting up oil companies to pay more to Alaska citizens and moving along that gas pipeline doesn't count as experience?

As compared, to, say, one speech against a war, or ensuring that senators eat standing up, instead of sitting down, at lobbyist funded receptions.

I mean an additional $1500 or whatever it is in the pockets of each and every Alaskan, versus eating shrimp on a little plate with toothpicks standing up, and giving up the lobster Newburgh which you ahve to eat sitting down.

WHat's more relevant to the average voter?

Ever hear the expression pissing upwind?

Keep it up. The intratrade gap is about 6 or 7 points now, in favor of McCain, and it has grown ever since Palin was named and the left decided the way to win the election is to focus all fire on Palin.

Palin: "Ready" to "Lead" the "Country"

@1: Look, PC, your lecturing and posturing is windier than anything any Stranger editor has ever belched into an editorial.

You are not a political analyst - you're a manic trainspotter with a superiority complex who thinks that staring at a computer screen all day imparts them with the collective understanding of the American mind.

Get a job, get a therapist, get off the fucking Slog.

@3 - Not be a dick, but what does that make you, or any of us losers who hang out here all day? I'm just surprised that PC seems to be making *some* sense for a change.

@5: I have no illusions that anything I say make a rat fart of a difference to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

@1 PC - I mostly agree with you on this one, which, frankly, is unusual.

In general, any media focus on Palin has been bad for Obama.

It would be nice if, instead of inexperience, the focus was on incompetence.

For example, I wish the Democrats could figure out a way to highlight their qualifications without coming across as "elitist".

Being the President of the United States is a fucking difficult job, and advanced degrees in international relations, political science, and/or law would seem to me to be a GOOD thing, not a burden. Lincoln had a law degree, by the way.

Meanwhile, we're not allowed to mention that Palin cobbled together (from five different universities) a bachelor's degree in communications? Communications!?! That's a football player degree.

Debating on SLOG is like being a participant in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

The oil companies made up the money they had to give to the Alaskans by raising end-user prices. So really we all gave our money to those Northern Exposure wanna-bes.

(I'm sure this is as true as anything McCain/Palin are spewing.)

"Ready"? Who cares? All that matters is she's "pro-life".

Every candidate but Palin has been in the fucking news for 2 goddamn years. Get a clue PC, this is going to be "All Palin, All the Time" news orgy for a while just purely because of this fact.

And to say that Obama shouldn't address it is political stupidity. He has addressed McCain, everything about him, and will continue to do so. That doesn't mean he can or should willfully ignore the spotlight on Palin. He needs to refute everything that comes out of her dumb ass mouth.

So yay Obama. Don't listen to Karl Rove and PC. Refute her, and also attack McCain. Its totally sensible. And that is what he is doing.
