Discussion of Last Night’s Project Runway….

posted by on September 11 at 11:42 AM

…is thoughtfully conducted after the jump.

So Orangina finally got the boot, along with Terri, whose booting filled my fellow Stranger writer Dominic Holden’s head with racist conspiracy theories. From an email sent by Dom this morning:

Is it just me, or was last night bullshit? They booted that woman with the awesome dress totally for demographics… Why else would they keep another fag on the show even if his dress looked like bundle of chiffon? Couldn’t have too many black people in the final running? I’m not one to get my knickers in a bunch over a reality TV show, but they kicked off one of the best.

It’s true: Terri did some amazing work (especially during drag queen week) but now she is gone.

In other news, Leanne has emerged as my total favorite, and it’s clear she would’ve won last night’s challenge if she hadn’t already won the previous two. Also, Kenley’s big mouth and bigger chip on her shoulder is a delightful treat for the viewers that’s gonna get her in trouble with the judges and life in general.

Yeah, I thought Terri got the shaft. It was mostly for her inability to work with Keith, although I have to say that only way to work with "I'm still a little fragile" Keith would be to push him out on upper-story window. Ripoff. Suede should be sobbing into his custard right now, but instead he gets to pretend to be a designer at Bryant Park.

I liked Leanne's dress too, but I did think that she's used those swoopy fabric pieces a few times now. She needs to switch it up a little, methinks. I really liked the skirt on Joe's creation in spite of the fact that he's an ass.

No real feelings about Terri's departure here. But damn was Blaine's creation ree-donk.

I hope they brought everyone back in order to spare us the pain of a reunion show.

And second week in a row that Heidi makes it clear that she hates Kenley. Yay!

terri lost because she is an idiot. keith may be a douche, but he had nothing to lose. terri did not have that luxury. he was there to help her, so why not put him to use? i'm not sure that he could have helped much anyway. her design was hideous.

Hey now, it's still a few weeks til Bryant Park. Suede is by no means guaranteed to go (in fact, next week...)

I was a fan of Terri in the beginning but Jarell was right, she got two faces and three patterns.

I didn't think the dress was THAT bad but it wasn't great. But beside that, she was a total bitch last night.

It's one thing to reject Keith's help completely but it's quite another to then blame his "abandoning" her for an iffy dress. Last night made me not like her.

Sadly, that means Kenley got to stick around. WTF with that Snow White on steroids dress? Not new, not cool, and since when has talking back to the judges ever worked?

Korto is still my favorite.

Judy Noodle's scorpian dress was cool though.

Suede would like you all to know that Suede is reading this and what you are saying makes Suede sad.

Thank you so much for not bowing to all the requests for spoiler warnings and use of cuts. I really appreciate not having to wear out my Tivo by actually using it to watch shows. Far more efficient to just have you tell me what happened.

I swear, the Slog and the PI both. What the hell?

9: I don't understand your complaint.

If you're being sarcastic...I still don't understand your complaint.

If you're not being sarcastic, didn't the placement of the discussion behind the jump give you some idea some "spoilers" might be included?

@9: once a show has aired, it's impossible for there to be a "spoiler". Having a Tivo doesn't make you the sole arbiter of time; it makes you a whiney douchebag.

Kristin Shepard shot J.R.! Hah!

Yes, Terri has made some really great stuff but the judges tend to decide based on the outfit in front of them rather than cumulatively. Her dress was not only ugly as sin, it did not appear to be as well constructed as Kenley's. Of course, they could have gotten rid of all the folks in the bottom and I would have been happy.

I'm glad you threw *most* of the post behind a jump, but posting the orange pic pre-jump (and assuming those who complain about spoilers are too dense to figure it out) smacks of petty condescension... but you knew that already.

14: Okay, but the farewell orange was, at worst, a elliptical half-spoil—there were two booted off last night.

Also, Fnarf at 12 is right right right.

Terri was awesome, I am sorry to see her go. I totally thought she would make it to the end.

They should bring Stella back one more time to make a leathah muzzle for Kenley. That girl is cute as can be, but really needs to shut the f up. She seems really mean.

I do like that Kors dissed Suede on his third person nonsense.

I assumed the orange was a reference to Michael Kors.

Yay Fnarf! Whiney Tivo queens... if we have to watch commercials, you have to live in fear of spoilers.

OMG, last night's judging was unmitigated bullshit. Out of the bottom four, the eliminated the wrong two! Yes, Blaine's was ugly, but so was Kenley's. I'd wear Blaine's S/M Libra costume waaaaay before the stupid plaid Quarterback Barbie monstrosity any day. Blaine was genuinely creative.

Terri was quite possibly the best designer on the damned show, and Suede is worthless and annoying.

Dammit!

They obviously keep people around on every reality show for factors other than their final product. They look at personality, process, and previous performance. The contest was to work with an eliminated designer, and Terri failed miserably. I think she has been mediocre so far, anyway, and she was definitely unpleasant. If they kick Korto off prematurely, maybe there's an argument.

I -LUV- Blayne (I am going to give him a hug if I catch him on the streets of Seattle) but if he had the personality of Jennifer he would have been gone the first episode.

Leanne is so much better than the other designers it's ridiculous! Korto is the only one who comes close.

You know, I'm not that impressed with Leanne usually, though I did like her concept on this challenge.

Korto is my current fav. All of her clothes are beautiful and expressive and flattering/wearable. I thought Terri was more creative, though.

I would have said that I don't know why Joe is still there, but I thought his work on this one was gorgeous, so. . .

I like Kenley, but as hard as one would have to try to make something uglier then her dress Terri seemed to pull it off.

Korta is by far this year's winner though.

I was upset to see Terri go but she completely screwed up the challenge.

1) Her work for Acid Betty was far more innovative and "avant-garde" than the mess she put up there.

2) She blamed Keith for "abandoning her" when she said repeatedly that she just wanted to do it on her own.

3) She reworked her outfit after Heidi had already seen it due to some criticism.

If there's one thing I've learned about Project Runway, it's to stand behind your design and defend it and not get stuck in a rut or bitching about other designers or how judges just don't "get it," m'kay?

Slightly off-topic: Does anyone know if there's a website/gallery that shows all the designs by contestant? My memory sucks, and it would be a nice refresher.

@25:
http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway/season/5/bios/index.php
Click on a designer, then Portfolio. That will show you their designs for the season.

I would have been happy to see any of the bottom 4 go. I'll miss Terri's designs, but she was quite the bitch. I'm torn on Kenley. She's approaching Wendy Pepper hate levels in my eyes, but maybe each week the show ends with me seething in anger because she's still there will make her eventual ouster sweeter. Smack her down, Heidi.

In other news: Jerrell won? Really? Don't get me wrong - I love him. But Joe and Leanne both had much better designs. And I don't even like Joe. And Leanne's testimonials make me think I'm watching an episode of The Office half the time.

I was rooting for Blayne but that outfit was guaranteed to get him the boot. Still, he was entertaining and fun to watch. LeeAnne will win. Korto second.

Could they design for the candidates wives and Ms. Palin next time? Swimwear?
