Cold Alaska

Upon hearing the news that Senator Obama had defeated Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination: “So sambo beat the bitch.” Alaska is a big and cold state. People say things and expect the words to rise from their lips and vanish with the mist.

I thought it was OK to be racist if you've never seen a black person in real life. Kind of like how it's OK to worship as you please until the missionaries colonize your Amazon village.

Sliming Palin

False Internet claims and rumors fly about McCain's running mate.

"We've been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain's running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.

Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn't cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years. "

Charles: Can you please say something as an antidote to the moronic Q&A in the Times this morning with Rem Koolhaas.

Yeah, fuck off, John Bailo. Nice cherry-pick there.

There are 25,000 black people in Alaska. Er, "sambos", as John Bailo would call them -- or defend calling them, which is the same thing. How very 1920 of her.

More from Newsweek:

Analysis
Since Republican presidential nominee John McCain tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, information about Palin's past has been zipping around the Internet. Several claims are not true, and other rumors are misleading.

I'd like a second opinion on this one.

Not that I defend or support Palin in the least, but a cottage industry of Sarah Palin is emerging, and a few of these stories have proven to be false or distorted.

There are plenty of well documented reasons to oppose and even dislike Palin without having to make stuff up. Doing that reduces you to the level of a Jerome Corsi.

More from Bailo: "One of the detriments (among the many) of living in the Puget Sound region is the complete absence of females, aged 20 to 40...Because of this dearth of prime aged females, we have the ignoble downside of lots of guys wandering around and either acting like girls, or, even more reprehensible, acting towards me as if I were a girl! "

Well, to be fair, Bailo's presumably got restraining orders preventing him from coming within 500 yards of any females. Though I gotta say, complaining about 20-year-olds is pretty hilarious. As if! Did you see his picture?

But, John, you're wrong about one thing: you're not a girl. You're a BIG GIRL'S BLOUSE.

Chuck,

If this story is true, it shouldn't be a problem to find one of the five or six people at her table to confirm it. Why doesn't the Stranger send one of its crack investigative journalists to Alaska to get the full story?

Also, reading the linked to "story", it accuses her of being a racist and referring to Alaska's Aboriginal people as "Arctic Arabs". This seems like a bit of a stretch since her husband (and her children) are part Alaska Aboriginal.

Todd Palin's mother, a former secretary of the Alaska Federation of Natives, is one-quarter Yup'ik, and his maternal grandmother, Lena Andre, is a member of the Curyung tribe.

When did "racists" start marrying "natives" and giving them lots of little "native" babies?...

These hysterical and unlikely smears are destroying the lefts ability to criticize Palin on legitimate issues.

Nice try though.

I've pretty much confirmed that the Stranger uses ad hominem attacks when it's infantile adult fantasies are challenged by real data.

Hey John Bailo, could you "pretty much confirm" how much the McCain/Palin campaign is paying you per post?

true or not, this is how you play politics. the GOP gives no quarter, we must do the same. we simply must win this one. i could give a rat's ass about a "high road" or "honor" or "intelligent debate".

we're fighting over the votes of perhaps 5% of the electorate, and they are the most indecisive, gullible, and low-information 5%. the feeble minded "independents".

Where did you get the photo of Palin with the dead moose? Is it real or doctored?

The Democratic Party should offer people asylum in the U.S. for testifying against Palin.
