Cheap Shot

The difference in security measures between last week’s Democratic convention and this week’s Republican convention is the talk of the assembled media. It took hours to get through multiple layers of security in Denver. We breezed through the barricades here in Minneapolis in less than ten minutes. Of course, in Denver they were trying to keep out the nuts with guns. And here in Minneapolis, well…

You can’t have a convention without delegates, right?

And confidential to Terry: There will be balloons, honey.

That stage is stupid. Already the Democrats have won!

So the convention in SAINT PAUL has barricades as far back as Minneapolis? Wow!

You so-called "reporters" really don't understand the Republicans at all.

It's not a "party" -- the Democrats are Party as in a centrist organization seeking to impose an ideology on a populace.

The Republicans are regular people trying to avoid having the Democrats impose themselves on us.

That's the difference you'll never understand. Never.

Bailo, you seem like the kind of guy who never had a blow job that he didn't pay for.

I, too, grow tired of Democrats trying to impose themselves upon us.

Like when they tried to impose themselves upon us in that MSP airport bathroom.

Or when they imposed all that sex education on Bristol Palin.

wait- Democrats?

@4 - John Bailo

John, I'm curious what you're trying to accomplish. Doesn't it seem a little circular to spend your time trying to make people understand that they will "never understand?"

Second, your use of quotation marks is interesting. I understand your impuning the professional credentials of the Stranger Staff with the quotes around "reporters", but preceding the quoted text with "so-called" makes it a little redundant.

But why quote "party"? The word isn't used in the original post; and you certainly must know what the "P" in GOP stands for, right?

I believe that you are some flavor of libertarian. You must realize that much of what Conservatives object to in the Democratic Party platform is an a expansion of personal freedom.

*) The war on drugs has led to the highest rates of incarceration in history, and drug-forfeiture laws have facilitated the largest confiscation of personal property with what can be charitably described as abbreviated due-process.

*) The Bush Presidency has introduced "rendition", incarceration without legal recourse, and torture to our "legal system".

*) Even something as simple as the Do-Not-Fly list - again, assembled, maintained and used in a process completely without any mechanism for public participation - should be enough to make their aims repugnant to someone espousing limited government interference in their lives.

In short, other than maintaining the tax base required to administer a centrally administered Federal Government, what impositions are the Democrats making? Simply that you must tolerate an expansion of freedoms that will benefit fellow Americans at no cost to you.

What, exactly, is so repugnant about that?

@8:

>>"*) The war on drugs has led to the highest rates of incarceration in history"

Great. I feel safer already...as the 20th century has bred the greatest number of psychopaths in history (something like 25 percent by my last reading). A world where that many people are operating without conscience requires a different type of "justice" than traditional Liberalism.

>>"*) The Bush Presidency has introduced \"rendition\""

We're in a war.

>>"*) Even something as simple as the Do-Not-Fly list - "

In every instance where there was some misjudgement, the wrong was righted. Libs will re-iterate the same tired story over and over, yet not present the follow up details.

>>"what impositions are the Democrats making? "

Al Gores Scientology is imposition enough.

@8 (again) "so called"

I use this term, because to "report" is to study and then describe. What I see here are a lot of preconceived notions. The only novelty appears when something happens that breaks the illusion of preconceived ideas about what a Democrat or Republican should be.

@10 - "the 20th century has bred the greatest number of psychopaths in history"

My guess is he wavered on this briefly, but then had a look in the mirror and saw enough to decide to go with it anyway.

John Bailo - In the interests of not wasting your time here, you should consider making a habit of citing the sources of your information.

You are out of your element here and speak largely in code. I'm not familiar with what you mean when you say "Al Gores Scientology", or why you bolster your claim about the number of 20th Century psychopaths with a link to a webpage on which that factoid does not appear.

Without such context, and in a forum where the majority are unfamiliar with your views, you risk appearing irrational.

Regarding your badgering the Slog Staff about their reporting - it is amusing that you chose a post that came closer than most the reporting of fact. It is clear that the Republican Convention, for whatever reason, is being organized as if it were happening in an occupied country. They do not appear as if they feel they have the support of a majority of the people around them.

Regardless, please consider adding citations to your posts, so the Slog readers can familiarize themselves with your readings.
