Can I Buy Tickets For This Right Now?
Steven Soderbergh is in the early stages of developing a biopic about Liberace for Warner Bros., which he will direct. The filmmaker said he has drafted his “Traffic” star Michael Douglas to play the flamboyant pianist.
And Matt Damon might play Liberace’s lover, Scott Thorson. Will this be the best movie ever? Yes.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Posted by Abby | September 11, 2008 1:04 PMwasn't robin williams attached to this at one point? still, michael douglas might do a good job.
Posted by scary tyler moore | September 11, 2008 1:24 PMOh, yes, please! Liberace was a more amazing cultural figure than Elvis was. Douglas is a godawful choice, though; for one thing, he's about as old as Liberace was when he died.
Posted by Fnarf | September 11, 2008 1:25 PMas long as MD dances like he did in basic instinct, then i'm sold!
Posted by trufe | September 11, 2008 1:49 PMAnybody else around here been to the Liberace Museum in Vegas? The pianos were my favorite. Oh, and Liberace fans can shop online:

Perhaps a life size cardboard stand-up of Liberace is in someone's future???
Posted by PopTart | September 11, 2008 2:09 PMI like the horror-show aspect of Michael Douglas. Robin Williams would have been insufferable.

Posted by max solomon | September 11, 2008 2:12 PMSoderbergh directing means this has potential to be fantastic. However, I'm not sure about Michael Douglas. I've liked Michael Douglas in other things, but I just can't picture him as Liberace. Douglas has a pretty strong voice, and I just can't see him doing Liberace's soft over-the-top nelly voice. He could do the physical part, but whoever does this needs to nail the voice, or it will be all wrong.
Oh, and Robin Williams would have been a terrible choice. Far too manic any hyper.
Posted by Reverse Polarity | September 11, 2008 2:19 PMThis is uncomfortably reminiscent of the casting of John Travolta in Hairspray.
Posted by drewvsea | September 11, 2008 3:05 PMBut Travolta was great in Hairspray, despite my fears.
Posted by it'smarkmitchell | September 11, 2008 3:45 PMWhen oh when is Matt Damon going to come out of the closet?
