I've felt that way for years. Being a native Utahn, the LDS have ALWAYS interfered with my life. This story doesn't surprise me at all, I've known a lot of shady people within the church (among all the shady people everywhere, I guess).

Its a job where you are 'called' to do it. There is no professional training, no qualifications. This leads to each church kind of has its own take on church matters (with some exception).

For example, one church will tell you that you are not allowed to eat chocolate because it contains caffine and that it is against god. Another church will be like, "chocolate is ok, but cola is bad".

Totally bizarre that average people get to lead the faith and listen to horrendous problems of their parishioners with no real qualifications.
