Biden on Palin

posted by on September 8 at 10:55 AM

Joe Biden has been on fire lately. The latest Biden clip making the rounds is this warning from him to Palin, couched in terms of gender equality, that he won’t be backing down at their debate.

The sound is a little off, but it’s definitely worth a listen:

I'm not sure whether her crying at the VP debate will help or hurt Biden.

A little off? It sounds like someone's recording audio over the video with a voice changer. What I can understand is sounding good, though.

Joe Biden reminds me of someone sitting at a local bar in the Homestead section of Pittsburgh, drinking some 75 cent draft beer from a vee shaped glass.

The Dems need go on an all out, no holds barred, attach of the failed polices of not just the Bush adminstration but the entire time the GOP had the house and senate. they need to get the message through the thick skull of the masses that the Gop had their chance and they fucked up this country's economy, environment, civil liberties, etc.

NO...He has to be very, very careful how he debates her...He cannot come off as condescending, bullying, sarcastic. Biden has to play it very cool, calm and controlled, otherwise he'll come off as the mean, old Washington insider picking off the sweet, young maverick.

@6 - But why? Everyone keeps saying that people will think he's bullying her. Only those who were already supporting her will think that. Biden needs to expose her lack of knowledge and do it in a way that is devastating to their arugment that she can just learn on the job.

And if they do claim that he bullied her, the Dems can hit right back with the argument that if she can't take a little bullying, she can't deal with hostile nations.

There's got to be a careful separation of the personal vs. the political, which the Obama campaign (if not all of their supporters) has done very well. I haven't heard anything from the ticket that could be construed as a personal attack on Palin, and I hope it stays that way. That said, I really like this "the GOP must think you're stupid" approach; the overarching theme at the GOP convention was (anti-intellectual, anti-librul, anti-media, anti-"elite") resentment, aka glorification of stupidity. The Dems should turn this on its head, pointing out that the GOP thinks it can distract from their failure in the last eight years to do anything positive at all for the majority of Americans by playing identity politics, and that somehow everyone's just supposed to forget about all that because they're rednecks, and proud of it. That's been the GOP message so far, but it's fragile for independents.

In case anyone doesn't realize what a lying and despicable son-of-a-bitch Biden is, just read this from a Delaware newspaper on his lying about that car crash:

@6 - I think Palin herself would think your comment condescending and patronizing. I don't she needs people like you protecting her.

It's gratifying to me to see official admission from Mr Biden that Mrs Palin is "a strong woman." Comparing her to Barbara Mikulski, Olympia Snowe, and Barbara Boxer ranks as a compliment, I think.

I like Joe Biden. I think he's a stand-up guy; I'd drink a beer with him, which is not something I'd do with many politicians.
Still, this is the same Joe Biden who said of his future running mate: "You got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." And the same Joe Biden who once said to someone asking about his law-school record: "I think I have a much higher IQ than you do." And although I like him, it must be said that he's clearly a man who likes the sound of his own voice more than just about anything. (Which gives him something in common with Mr Obama.)

Watchers of the VP debate, and there will be many, will look for Mr Biden NOT to come out with his foot in his mouth, and for Mrs Palin to acquit herself competently ... and building up Mr Biden as a fierce debater simply lowers the bar for her. I predict that both will happen, and that the debate will be judged to have ended with no clear winner.

Not only did he borrow from Obama, but Biden also ripped off the Republicans' slogan with a line that almost caused the crowd to blow the roof off this fairgrounds farmhouse-style venue.

"They say "country first" - let’s put our country first and let’s put our people first!"

When it comes to understanding the issues, McCain and Palin, Biden said, just don't get it.

"It is stunning, it is literally stunning, how out of touch this administration and John McCain are," he exclaimed.
