2008 Biden, Never Missing an Opportunity
posted by on September 9 at 10:50 AM
Speaking about the new Republican appeal to parents of “special needs” kids (because of Sarah Palin’s developmentally disabled infant), Joe Biden said today:
I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there’s joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess what folks? If you care about it, why don’t you support stem cell research?
This is exactly what VP candidates are supposed to do—launch the tricky but important attacks, take the heat if they don’t land right. Joe Biden appears to really be settling into his role as attacker-in-chief, and loving every minute.
A recent classic:
This is the first time I've felt really good about Joe Biden as a VP choice.
Yes, he needs to be more active. The debate will be fantastic . . . unless she cries. Then he'll be an "arrogant bully".
I always knew I'd end up supporting whichever Dem made the general election, but Joe Biden is making me feel better about my support of Obama.
@ 2, unfortunately, yes, he will. Despite how they attack Barack all the time without him present to defend himself, anyone attacking her will/is a bully. Even if she is present.
I hope she cries. That would be an instant classic, better than Muskie's 'melting snowflakes'.
She won't cry. She'll sit there and smugly repeat talking points and canned put-downs just like she's doing now. Pull her string and Karl Rove's voice comes out.
I like Biden, and I like this quote. Too bad the press is busy transcribing every single word uttered by Sarah Palin, and can't manage a report or two on the other VP candidate. Hey, Grandpa, tell me that fairytale again, the one about the liberal media.
Oh, and didn't crying give Hillary a boost because it made her seem so "real"? I'd rather Palin stamp her feet or try to hit someone.
Thanks for posting that. I needed a good dose of Biden today to stave off the creeping dread.
I was at the town hall today in Columbia, Missouri, where Biden said this (though I suspect he's said it before and will again--it got huge applause). He was fantastic. Amazing with the statistics without notes. Funny. You're right, he's taken up the attack dog mantle and genuinely seems to be having a great time.
*Shakes head*
Typical Marxist tactic: Soaring speeches that obfuscate a totalitarian agenda.
*sigh*
There was a time when the Democrat Party was filled with loyal Americans.
@6,
Hillary cried while essentially describing how much she loves this country. That's significantly different than crying because the big, bad man is mean to you. If Palin cried at the debates under those circumstances, she might gain some sympathy from women (mainly conservative women), but I think men would be alienated.
He's fun. I'd much rather drink with him than Sarah Palin.
@11
I'd like to get Sarah Palin drunk, though. I bet she'd put out then.
I also bet she does her kegels (gotta do that after having five kids, ya know?)
@9:
That's DemocratIC Party numbnuts.
And it's STILL filled with loyal Americans. It's just that our idea of what America IS doesn't encompass the fascism, plutocracy and oligarchy of the Far Right.
I love Joe Biden. He was my favorite to watch during the early Democratic debates, and he's my favorite to watch now. He's just so damn quick witted and unabashed with it. Get 'em Joe!
Biden also never misses an opportunity to rewrite history and lie. Now he's saying that the guy that killed his first wife and childen in a car crash was drunk. However...
I'm no scientist, but what's the consensus on stem cell research as it relates to chromosomal defects (i.e., Down syndrome)? I thought current stem cell research was geared more towards Christopher Reeve and Michael J. Fox situations.
Biden has only just begun. He is a stellar addition to the ticket, and I think he's going to be really effective with regard to Palin and her never-ending bullshit.
Dude is a bad ass. Mama Biden raised him well.
@15,
Biden rewrites history and lies? That makes him just like you.
@13: Lord Basil is a Fox News shill. Don't bother, he isn't here to do anything other than reel off insults.
@19
Damn straight I watch Fox News.
I also listen to talk radio as much as I can. Michael Medved and Kirby Wilbur dispense wisdom that you desperately need you TRAITOR!!!
Hey, Baz - you normaally sound like you're 8 years old, but when you go to ALL CAPS LIKE THAT, you bring it down to around 6.
Do I hear 4? 2? Can you CAPITALIZE yourself back into the WOMB, perhaps?
@18: Considering that your statement reflects your acknowledgment of the validity of the article, I'll take what I can get from you. Thanks dear.
@12, thank for reminding me to do my kegels.
Amen! I like the man and what he has to say.
I just can't get over this.
Why/How the hell has Biden become a good guy since being chosen for VP? More so, WHY do "we" see him this way now?
Have we ALREADY forgotten what we all so strongly thought of him a month ago?
