A White Shade

Washington Post:

Organizers conceived of this convention as a means to inspire, but some African American Republicans have found the Xcel Energy Center depressing this week. Everywhere they look, they see evidence of what they consider one of their party’s biggest shortcomings.

As the country rapidly diversifies, Republicans are presenting a convention that is almost entirely white.

Only 36 of the 2,380 delegates seated on the convention floor are black, the lowest number since the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies began tracking diversity at political conventions 40 years ago. Each night, the overwhelmingly white audience watches a series of white politicians step to the lectern—a visual reminder that no black Republican has served as a governor, U.S. senator or U.S. House member in the past six years.

But, hey, Sarah Palin sure let those community organizers have it!

I can't help but think that shitting all over community organizers is not a good political move. The short-sightedness of the GOP is consistently striking.

Did anyone else hear a dog whistle when Rudy gave that little laugh and described Obama's story as something that could happen "only in America" ? Did that seem a tad racist to anybody else?

Who's shitting on community organizers? All she said was that being mayor of a town of 5000 people is really hard, and that all community organizers do is sit around all day smoking weed. What's the big deal?

If I remember correctly, Rudy had a line that blew me away. Something about how talking about "Islamic terrorism" is offensive to terrorists.

The population of heaven is young, brown and does not speak English. I have found very few "Americans" here. Everybody here seems to be Black, Latino, Arabic or Chinese. So, I guess Heaven is like Earth. And America was becoming more like Heaven everyday. But, I didn't see it that way; no, no, like the rest of us, I was blinded by prejudice and by fear. I guess I wasted a lifetime.

Good editorial choice on the diversity editorial Stat.

FWIW, I was wondering just how much the Democratic 'Maverick' Joe Lieberman was playing just another 'old white guy in the senate' game as I listened to him.

Still, looking forward to a Biden/Lieberman exchange at some point. Perhaps on 'Meet the Press' or Stephanopolous?

I completely agree with you #6, the Republicans ARE disgusting. Especially little miss Mayor of Pop 4000 Meth Hovel and Governator of a state with a total population just above that of Seattle who likes railing on people who take pride and ownership in their communities.

Yeah, I hate them too. Glad we're on the same team.
