A Cry for Help (And an Answer)

Received via email yesterday afternoon:

In 2004, I tried to get into to Chop Suey on election night in order to be with like-minded folks, but it was too full. This year I’ve never been so hopeful, yet never been so scared shitless of getting my heart broken again by this country. I am already planning on taking November 5th off from work in anticipation of a complete mental breakdown. Any chance you’re planning a big (bigger than Chop Suey) election night party or a post-election celebration/commiseration?

thanks,
Kristin

Kristin, your angst is our command. Behold:

If McCain manages to win, will there be a mass suicide?

No. Liberals are full of shit. You're not going to kill yourself. You're not going to leave the country. You will cry tho. You always do.

@2 - you seem to have confused the words "have" and "are."

"I am already planning on taking November 5th off from work in anticipation of a complete mental breakdown."

Oh, come on now. Seriously? If you were that bothered you would have left the country either four or eight years ago.

I hope Obama wins, but y'all know as well as I do that it's not like America's going to be this new. happy place the day he takes office. Last I checked, we've got a lot of problems regardless of whether there's a democrat or republican in office.

I asked for November 5 off a few weeks ago. I was so depressed in 2004 that I went into work almost 4 hours late and left early. I was at the Chop Suey when it all went down, down, down.

@9: Yes, it's 21+ only. Sorry, youngins. But we'll be blogging, so you can join us virtually if you're not old enough to get in.

I just found out Bob Dylan is playing the U of Minn on election night. That should be an interesting show regardless of how the election goes, so no trip to Seattle for me this time either. One of these days, tho.

Underage people wouldn't like the party anyway. All the tension, none of the sweet, numbing alcohol.

kristin..i heart you. when i saw that obama had clinched the nomination on the front page of the times, something inexplicable clinched up and i started crying in front of the newspaper box. this happened while i was catching a bus on 5th and jackson around a crowd of strangers. i bought tickets to go to vancouver bc for november 4th - 6th .. i'm getting up in the morning, voting and then going to vancouver for two days.. i'm not leaving for good or nothing, i'm coming back but either way it swings i'm positive i'm going to be a bawly mess and it's best i'm not around.

I kind of thought this was one of those elections where the 18-21 age voters sort of mattered. Isn't it?

The details are fuzzy, but the folks who put on LICK! at Chop Suey are having a free election event at Chop Suey for queers and their friends.
