No wonder she's smiling. Yet another case of police keeping priorities in order.

What the FUCK is going on.

those cops had to be embarrassed. i'm not sure this is about priorities... i'm having a hard time thinking there would ever be a time when it would be okay to arrest someone for not returning a library book or two. can't they just use a collection agency or garnish wages/tax refunds or something? or ban her from entering all libraries and parks after printing her picture in the newspaper?

unbelievable.

That librarian tell-all book is going to let out the secret that libraries are nothing but overpriced homeless shelters. I suppose it's going to give some bus drivers ideas if it makes a buck.

Libraries are not boring, and they're not homeless shelters either. They are the bedrock of civilization. And they're stuffed with smart, sexy people too.

I don't understand how the Michigan librarian's superiors justified firing her. Libraries have always been keen supporters of free speech. I think it is appalling.

I think the knowledge that she got arrested for overdue library books makes her more attractive.

I'm reading a book by a public librarian and it's fucking terrible.

The fact that her tell-all book is being put out by PublishAmerica, a print on demand publisher of dubious merit, is enough to put the kibosh on my interest.

#3 People get into legal trouble all the time for keeping stuff that doesn't belong to them.

@10. yes, but this is a library, so there should be a system that governs fees that doesn't involve arrest.

not only that, if my friend borrows a couple of books from me, and doesn't return them, i will probably take them to small claims court, not have them arrested.

@10 not only that, but did you just try to defend the practice of using police resources to arrest people who don't return library books?

trouble = yes.
arrest = no.

Is this some viral marketing thing from the library or book publisher?

My wife is a branch manager for our library system and she has the craziest stories. Not long ago a crackhead ran in with a gun and robbed the place ($80). There was an off duty police officer in there and he ran her (yes her) down.

A public library means just that; public. Why should a library be any different than the rest of the public? Perverts and all?!?

she looks like she knows this is going to be her best story for the rest of her life.

I heard the librarian who wrote the tell-all on NPR and she sounded like a terrible person. Seriously, I thought "What a terrible person" as I listened to her.

Oh my gosh, Fnarf, you are so very wrong about all those "smart sexy people" hanging out at the library. Academic libraries might be a different story, but I've worked in public libraries for over eight years and they are deeply unsexy places. Irate, vengeful patrons urinating in the after hours book drop, developmentally disabled adults using our computers to print out Red Robin coupons and/or pictures of Reba McEntire, razor blades hidden in the pages of Highlights magazine...this should not pump anyone's 'nads, yo!

@18, I plead for mercy. I meant to write "staffed" not "stuffed". I didn't notice until now.

As proof, I offer your own deeply funny and sexy Reba McEntire story. Not the patron, Betty; YOU.

@14 Look what you have gone and done! Now your wife is going to get fired.

Uh Fnarf, I am a librarian. You're nuts...or blind...or something. If public libraries were staffed by sexy people, I would certainly have considered that career path. Public librarians are often great people, but they are just one or two steps above the patrons in terms of attractiveness.

@22, I see a ton of sexy librarians at the branches I frequent.

@23 I guess "sexy" for some people is a bookish, mushy gal with bad hair wearing a denim jumper. Ah well - Chacun à son goût, as they say in France.
