2008 White Power in Numbers

onCrosswalk.com, which boasts “the world’s largest Christian audience online,” thinks bigoted sheep everywhere will feel better knowing that there are lots more bigoted sheep just like them. According to results of a recent poll they saw fit for my inbox, evangelical Christians all pray to the same hateful god, but, when white evangelicals vote for president, they vote for a candidate whose skin color matches their own. Almost the entire pasty-white flock is voting for John McCain, and a smaller margin of African-American evangelicals are voting for Obama.
And this is great news to the publishers of Crosswalk, we infer, because there’s a thumbs up. And this is good news for whitey, specifically, because that thumb—it’s a white thumb. So amen… for racial division?
Thinking such candor was far too odious even for bigots, I replied to the church-‘n-hate group, asking, “How do you interpret these findings? Is this good news or bad news?”
Kristie Rutzel, Crosswalk.com spokeswoman, replied, “I find these statistics very interesting—in light of the fact that the Pew post-election survey of ‘04 showed Bush with 78% of the white evangelical vote.” So, what’s “very interesting” is that, compared to a poll conducted years ago, a black man on the ticket may have even pushed some formerly Democratic racist sheep over to the Republicans! “The African American ethnicity, like any other, is proud of their culture and heritage and is thus going to stand behind someone from their own nationality,” she says. “I also think that the survey shows that white evangelicals are going to vote according to their conservative Republican party and are loyal to their affiliation.”
In other words, African Americans are not “loyal to their affiliation.” But white Republican bigots—they stand together.

So now African Americans have a different nationality from the rest of us Americans?
But are they actually going to show up to the polls? Evangelicals do not believe that McCain is their man. Are they racist enough to actually show up and vote for him just to keep a black man out of office?
Anyway, it's typical that religious nuts would crow over a 3 percent increase in support. That's within the margin of error, assholes.
Why is "white" capitalized? Couldn't they have at least said "Caucasian"?
"hateful god" lends itself perfectly to the irony of their little fable/mythology. bah!
@2: short answer to your question: Yes.
#2, how do you know what the margin of error is?
What I found most interesting is that blacks are going to vote according to their "nationality", but whites are just going to vote according to their party affiliation.
They're right that Republican party is ever more marginalized and regional. It raises the question of what will take the place of the GOP on the national level.
@1 - that's exactly what I was thinking.
I have always voted for whom would be the biggest benefit to MY nationality, American.
I've also been loyal to my affiliation - an affiliation of people who have a right to make a decision in their heads based on their own core beliefs and not those of a particular 'party'.
evangelicals typically vote republican, not demoncrat. they might be bigoted against non-caucasians as well, but i'm not sure this stat demonstrates that effectively. i mean, it's only 3% different from bush.
and if you think about it, that three percent difference would mean that those are voters who had democratic leanings, but now switched. that means it is as much a rebuke of democrat whites as it is of republican whites.
obama is making inroads with the younger, more liberal christians in a surprising way -- a way that would tend to refute this assertion. but the old guard is sticking to their partisan guns.
Dom, you need to hose out your inbox with some bleach and hot water.
It's baffling to me that people still confuse words such as "nationality" and "ethnicity." I exactly didn't grow up in Berkeley, but I still had it hardwired into my system at an earlier age that jingoism, racism and ignorance were ridiculous crap that only old people in movies did.
Stuff like this almost makes me want to run for office to set dumb people straight.
Barack Obama will probably get over 90% of the black vote in this election.
How do you interpret these findings? Is this good news or bad news?
you know, if you move to another country, you'll be a minority.
You'll be an American.
Nobody will care what else you call yourself - that's what you'll be.
I want to give all the white republicans wedgies.
@14 - considering they wear leather underwear - that might hurt.
I'd be curious to see how these numbers hold up with Romney on the ticket.
Dominic,
Consider this: just maybe some voters will vote for McCain because they feel he's a better candidate:

Contrary to what Jacob Weisberg of Slate and John Heilemann of New York Magazine wrote, no rational person is going to flatly state they are going to vote for McCain because he's "white". It would be incredibly difficult to prove.
@17: the key is no RATIONAL person. the feeble minded are a massive voting block. and they vote for whom foxnews says.
@17: Actually, I think that's exactly what Weisberg said:
"Five percent of white voters acknowledge that they, personally, would not vote for a black candidate.
Five percent surely understates the reality. In the Pennsylvania primary, one in six white voters told exit pollsters race was a factor in his or her decision."
Irrational: 5%
Rational but still voted based on race: 11.67%
The only thing that surprises me is that this surprises anyone. We told you people this is a rascist country to it's very core. What, now you believe it? There's no way Obama can win. But you can't see it. Good luck. I mean, if only he could, but that's not the reality.
i hate to agree with vince, but this is still america, where nothing but a white male will ever suffice to be the head of this country. It is because of this fact though that Obama will not get 90 percent of the black vote. It is nice to see that some of the racism has dispelled. Contrary to popular belief black people are the most fractioned of all the ethnicities and do not readily support each other in business or otherwise. I am a black person, just in case you were wondering.
I apologize for mistakingly writing nationality for ethnicity. I mean what i said - Caucasian evangelicals are going to vote republican, it's a simple as that. If McCain were African American, he would still have the majority of evangelical votes because we correlate republicans with conservative values. I made no statement regarding the idea that African Americans are not loyal to their affiliation, rather that they are more likely support a candidate of their own ethnicity.
