Slog - Comments on What She Said

Dana Goldstein: Sebelius, of course, would be the bold, unconventional choice—very Obama. But by choosing a female running mate, Obama would, unfortunately, thrust the Hillary die-hards and their ever-more marginal discontentment back into the spotlight. That said, anyone who believes that only Hillary Clinton deserves to be the first female president or vice president doesn't deserve the designation "feminist." So I'd relish watching the reactions to a Sebelius nod, not only because such a choice would double down on Obama's most effective message—"change"—but because it would reveal exactly which Clinton boosters are ready to widen the lens and enthusiastically support...

dennis kucinich's smoking hot british wife would be "bold & unconventional".

but sibelius would be fine with me, because i don't give a fuck about VP.

Ann talks about this on Feministing, and she pulls the exact same quote:

http://www.feministing.com/archives/010533.html

She writes: "I think most former Hillary backers would not disappoint. Maybe that's because, in my personal experience, every woman I know who was a die-hard Hillary supporter would be really happy to see any liberal, pro-choice woman on the ticket with Obama."

Look, there are some women who were just really dedicated to HILLARY and they're never going to be happy if it's not her. Of course, it's those women who the media will be looking for if Sebelius gets the nom, so we'll hear a lot from THOSE Hillary supporters but I hardly think they'll be representative of even die-hard Hillary supporters. You may not know that from the media, though, which will seek out what it expects to hear and rebroadcast that.

Watch for it. Ain't truthiness grand?

Do those diehard female Hillary supporters exist in any real numbers? I think it's mostly a media creation - although I do know a few hysterical homos who swear they'll vote for McCain because Hillary didn't get the nomination. I think they're mostly just doing it for the attention though.

I can't honestly understand any Hillary supporter who would be genuinely offended by Obama choosing a well-respected, popular, pro-choice liberal female governor from a red state. That whole constituency, to the extent it exists, smacks of a cult of personality, which is pretty ironic given that they tarred Obama's supporters with that same accusation.

@ 4 -- Yes, it's just a media creation, AND the polls are all faked ... like today's NBC poll that gives Obama only 52% of Clinton supporters, with 21% backing McCain.

That's a 20-25 million vote head start for McCain in a 140 million vote election. (Other polls will show variations of this result.)

But it's all a media creation, based on fake poll results. Nothing to worry about.

Nothing at all to worry about.

Ron dear, don't get distraught. I didn't meant to imply that you were a hysterical home. But if the shoe fits...

How would a poll taker know that someone was a "hillary supporter"? What is the criteria they are basing that on? And if McCain gets 20% and Obama 50%, who has that other 30%? And where are you getting the 25 million number from? Even by the Hillary campaign's own (suspect) numbers, there were only 18 million Hillary voters, tops. So that would be about 9 million for Obama and 3 million for McCain.

Numbers, dear, numbers - they are important. That's why you should have taken math instead of drama 3. I know - I made the same mistake.
