Lady Jesus

Dolly Parton

"It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!" chirps Dolly, forever casting herself as Daisy Duke with a gee-tar. It's a ruse—a genius one—masking this hayride hussie's stature as one of America's great singer-songwriters. Beyond the voice and eternal songbook, Parton is the rare great artist who is also a great celebrity—her sexy-Muppet-with-a-heart-of-gold shtick was inverting sexploitation when Madonna was still in diapers—and even the shortest list of true American originals (Bob Dylan, Muhammad Ali, Buster Keaton) simply must include Dolly Parton. (WaMu Theater, 1000 Occidental Ave S, www.ticketmaster.com. 8 pm, $39.50–$85

Dolly is an amazing singer! Try to forget the "Islands in the Stream" duet crapola, and check out "The Grass is Blue" from a few years back, it's an all star Bluegrass hoedown.

It's pretty simple; if you don't like Dolly Parton, you're a misanthropic jerk.

And a stupidhead.

There a TON of great girl singers in her generation of country music, who may not have gone on to become icons but are well worth listening to. Check out Norma Jean, who preceded Dolly as Porter Wagoner's singing partner. "I Wouldn't Buy A Used Car From Him" would sound good coming from Dolly, too, come to think of it.

Dolly has always been a favorite of mine. and Gabe is right not some of the 80's stuff. Ignore the plastic mounts, she always had some Tina Turneresque Thighs.

Wow, That's just great hair. Why don't women wear their hair like that anymore? If I were a woman, I'd get a beehive or Boufont, or a great upsweep. Maybe a bunch of wigs, so I could change my look for day to day.
