Today in Prank Calls

posted by on August 27 at 14:25 PM

This just in from Slog tipper Melody:

I am a UW employee currently sitting at my desk, hard at work in my office in the old Safeco building. Not fifteen minutes ago I was eating my pho and reading the Slog on my lunch break when I received the following call on my UW phone:

Me: This is Melody
Caller (deep, older man’s voice with a heavy southern drawl): Yeah, I’m looking for the shameless hussy who made a fool of herself on national television last night.
Me: Excuse me?
Caller: I’m looking Anne Rice Mills, or whatever, that cried and went on and on about Hillary Clinton last night. I want to talk to her.
Me: What?
Caller then hung up.

As a volunteer for the 43rd District Democrats, my contact information is “out there” but this is just odd. I was wondering if any of your readers have reported similar calls, be they “prank” or from some bona fide angry Democrat…

Anyone? In the meantime, enjoy the “shameless hussy“‘s call-inspiring DNC performance here.

No one I encounter in my everyday life has noticed the DNC is going on, much like the Olympics (which I gather has ended?) -- no one at my office, neighborhood or elsewhere that I've been around in the last few days is talking about the election. I doubt most of the twentysomethings I work with vote, anyway.

To them, the DNC is something only fanatics are paying attention to or discussing, like nerds eating up Comicon coverage.

Caller was looking for Anne Price-Mills, who I wrote about Monday.

I discussed it at work with my Republican friend. He makes me long to be a Republican.

The only remaining Republicans are ones in deep deep denial.

No prank calls to report here.

And just a note, @1... me and all my "20 something" friends that you doubt will vote have been glued to the television watching the DNC. I even watched that boring guy from Montana. (Did anyone else find him boring? I just could not stay awake.)

everytime i hear someone say sexism is the one and only reason hillary lost the nomination, i die a little inside. but i'm often reminded this means i hate all women, and anything i say to the contrary only proves it to be true. i think maybe i just hate everybody. fuck all y'all.

This fucking identity oriented voting in politics is here to stay because it's stupid enough to bewitch America's seething, appetite driven public majority.

It's fair to say that Barack is under qualified for the job, no one alive is wualified to undo the mess of the last 4 administrations. He's the only person left actually running for that job at this time Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is totally qualified to continue the job of steering the 30 Years Running American Rape-Train of the Clinton-Bush shell game.

I loved, loved, loved her clever campaign platform with it's barely implicit, "America, don't hire the less qualified man over the veteran woman deserving of promotion" thing. It almost worked. If she weren't part of the problem we're getting rid of I'd ride for her.

We'll see if the fucking Dems don't manage to come from ahead to lose it like always.
