These Little Games Make Me Laugh

posted by on August 8 at 16:38 PM

It was pretty clear 20th Century Fox did not have much confidence that Mirrors—set to be released next Friday—would impress critics.

Mirrors

They had scheduled the press screening for Thursday at 8 pm, the kind of timing that effectively discourages reviews in weekly papers and puts daily critics under a no-thinking-allowed deadline. But it takes a very special kind of movie to get a studio to do this:

Dear Member of the Press: The screening of Mirrors, to which you were invited, has been cancelled per 20th Century Fox directives. A letter confirming this will be mailed shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Thank you.

Damn! It’s really bad! Now I want to see it even more.

I think Keifer would have liked to have made a better movie, but they were RUNNING OUT OF TIME!

No, it's worse.

They had to break it into one-hour segments because it was so bad, with a waterboarding intermission between segments.

Is The Happening going to get a run for its money?

Just to be fair, this is still the same director that brought us the stupendous slasher High Tension and the fair-to-medium remake of the Hills Have Eyes. To a gorehound, they weren't all THAT bad.

At least this one is getting a national release than the Midnight Meat Train that got a one theater per state nationwide. Go Gateway 8!

And really Big Sis, is it really a shock nowadays that studios aren't arranging preview screenings? Hell even, thou beloved XFiles 2 was kept under wraps....

Hey Kiefer old dude...

I forget to remind you every now and again why I gotsta keep after your ass.

You'd think you really fell out on the tiles again or somethin'.

Any way... you'll need a whole case of Silver Bullets to keep the wargs away From Reznor by the time he hears your trying to fuck with his french spanish lines again.

Sorry buddy... you just gotta get off that 24/7 routine and back into suckin' it up me in the red room.

Wow. Helluva press release, throwing the studio under the bus like that. That's grounds for gettin' all upset-like!

Who at Janet Wainwright botched that one?

@5: Actually, XF 2 did have a press screening, little bro. How else did I have time to write 1000 words on it the day before it opened?

@7: Nah, the publicists don't have the authority to cancel screenings on their own. That kind of language is par for the course.
