Recipe of the Day: Poulet Nicoise (recipe and photo via Well Fed)

Ingredients
1 chicken, about 3 to 4 pounds, cut into 8 serving pieces
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1/4 cup olive oil
1 yellow onion, sliced
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 yellow squash, quartered and sliced 1/4 inch thick
1/4 cup dry white wine
3 tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
3 teaspoons chopped fresh tarragon
5 plum tomatoes, seeded and quartered
1/4 cup dry-cured black olives, pitted
1 1/4 cups chicken stock

Season the chicken with salt and pepper. In a 5 1/2-quart Dutch oven over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil. Add the chicken and brown about 5 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate while you continue to brown the rest of the chicken.

Reduce the heat to medium, add the onion, season with salt and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 7 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes more. Add the squash, wine, 2 tablespoons of the parsley and 2 teaspoons of the tarragon.

Cook, stirring occasionally, until the squash is soft but not browned, about 5 minutes.

Return the chicken to the pan and add the tomatoes, olives and stock.

Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer until the chicken is cooked through, 25 to 30 minutes. Stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon parsley and 1 teaspoon tarragon. Serve immediately.

Hi.

Why even bother reporting anything McCain has to say?

No, seriously. Why?

Doesn't sound very "christian" to wish bad things on others.

Praying for rain? Are they operating under the misconception that Democrats are made out of rice paper and cornstarch?

I'm kind of glad the cell phone ban was upheld. At least there's on place where nobody's yammering away non-stop. And like anybody listens to those reminders to turn their ringers off.

I know a college history teacher who on the first day of her class-- ON THE HISTORY OF SLAVERY IN THE UNITED STATES-- had a student object that she was "playing the race card" by focusing on how race was used to justify slavery.

Sounds like someone hasn't read very far in his Bible:

Matthew 5:44
"But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."

What would be funny is if it DID rain in Denver but then as Obama comes on the stage the rain stops, the sun breaks through the clouds and a voice from above sounds from the heavens saying "This is whom I endorse for President" Right afterwards the sky fills with the sound of angels singing.

Could you imagine how the GOP would spin THAT?!?

@13: They would probably point out God's record of murdering innocent children, His blind eye towards greed, lust, and famine, and His endorsement of his own son's death.

Is that REALLY someone you want picking the leader of the free world?

"And now the creator of the universe has endorsed Obama to be OUR President. But let's look at Gods record shall we?

God told Joshua to kill countless people.

God's own appointed leader of Isreal, King David committed audulty...with a woman.

God blinded Saul on the road to Damascus to manipulate Saul and forced him to change his name to Paul. You know who else changes their names after conversions? Muslims!!!

Can we trust God to tell us who to vote for? I think the record speaks clear as to God's judgement"

"I'm John McCain and I approve this message"

@16 Begging once again the question, what the fuck use are protection orders? They seem to be like waving a red flag in front of a bull. "Protection order? I'll show you a protection order with this 9mm handgun bitch." I am so mad at the system, yet I can't figure out how it could be fixed. Please tell me for every one of these horrible deaths there are 5 other women who were kept safe by a protection order.

@19, I don't have any statistics to show you, but I think they do work most of the time. Most abusers are not prepared to go the whole nine yards and carry out a murder-suicide. They may be angry, but they're not looking to die. A little reminder that the force of the law is against them is usually enough.

Sadly it sometimes is not.

protection orders work based on the premise that people who get one filed against them are rational and want to avoid the wrath of the law. the catch 22 is anyone who needs a protection order probably isn't rational enough to respect the law.

And on the unjust fella;

Obama has the ability, as the black candidate, to play the race card in such subtle ways that when anyone calls attention to it THEY are blamed on playing the race card. This is happening over and over and over again.

We won't support spine-less NO-Bama and will re-defeat him in November!!!

So, Obama points out and plays up the positive fact that he could be the first African-American President and some how this is playing the evil "race card".

This is just a sad example of typical GOP negative politics. You find your political rivals strengths and attempt to slime and slant them as negatives.

Got an email fr. some asian organization saying they got email fr. Obama's half asian sister and urging us to vote for him. Ha what a load of crap about Obama not playing the race card. Two thirds of asians in the primary did not vote for him. Now he's gonna use his asian sister to gather support and that's not playing race card?

So? Was it a problem for Chelsea Clinton to campaign on behalf of her mother to try to win over the youth vote?

A terrorist walks into a bar. He sees McCain sitting on a bar stool, and sits next to him, and orders a drink.

McCain turns to the terrorist and says "We don't get many terrorists here in this bar."

The bartender says to McCain "Hey, Gramps, better check your medications, you're wigging out again, ain't nobody here but you."
