I would add that following the 'logic' of your average Ayn Rand conservative, McCain ended up in that situation because of choices he made, and hence is due no special consideration for his suffering.

Following the 'logic' of your average 'swiftboat vets for truth' conservative, McCain ended up in prison because he was a second rate pilot who couldn't keep his bird in the air, so he got what he deserved.
