There goes the "ick" factor. What have they got left?
LDS (Mormon) 'Yes on 8' Game Plan --
I've posted a letter sent from Boyd K. Packer on July 28th to the California LDS stake presidents:
-- Apparently, there is a plan in place to put up one million 'Yes on 8' yard signs at 7:00 am on September 22nd.
Even so, the fundies and the LDS are gonna lose this one. Too bad. Ba ha ha!!!
“The Best Press Possible for the ‘No on Prop. 8’ Campaign”
Except that both parties have a history of being a little fickle when it comes to long term relationships.
Not, obviously, that this doesn't apply to everyone else on the cover of that magazine, but I think the lesbian couple that had been together since the '50s was the best possible press for the campaign.
"That doeshn't make me gay, that makesh me shmart!"
@2: but does that lesbian couple, as inspiring and ultimately a better example as they are, feature a very beloved (and mainstream) celebrity? That's what this is about.
Considering the state's governor was elected despite peppering his campaign speeches with lines from Terminator 2, I'm gonna have to agree with @4 that Ellen and Portia will make more waves on Prop. 8.
Well, that's all well and good.
But why is the Yes side donating more than twice as much as you?
It helps that Ellen's wife is hot! It the kind of couple you can fantasize about and that makes lesbian marriage ok.
I think you guys are counting a little too much on this. To those who are against it, gay marriage is kind of like abortion--it's just WRONG, no matter who does it. The bible says so.
I doubt the issue will pass, but I don't think happy gay celebrities will have anything to do with that.
I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I visit a message board for a certain stupid reality tv show, so it's not a highbrow environment. Yesterday someone started a thread asking if people liked Portia's dress and there have been over a dozen responses with people talking about how happy they are for the couple, how gorgeous Portia looked, how wonderful it is that they could be married, etc. Not a single negative comment! Blew me mind. (Made all the more amazing when you consider the number of trolls on the board and the numerous negative messages one must overlook to read the positive.)
I don't see how Portia could have married Ellen after Ellen took away Portia"s little dog and dumped it on her hairdresser
This is the state that elected Reagan, Eastwood, Bono and Schwarzenegger. Our first openly lesbian legislator was a has-been child sitcom star. OJ, Blake and, soon, Spector all got away with murder. Paris, Lindsay and Britney do whatever the hell they want wherever the hell they want to do it.
This is California. All we care about is celebrity.
Keep talking, keep fighting, make sure to vote -- but Ellen's made the defeat of Prop 8 a done deal.
I have more faith in the people of California than I have in the people of Assholeville, USA.
@12: Everything north of the Orange County line IS Assholeville, USA.
I live south of the Orange County line. Well south of it. We call it "south county." South county is wealthy and Republican (not me, but just in general).
Many of the south county Republicans will be happy to do as the Mormons canvassing our neighborhoods request. They will vote for Prop 8.
That puts me right in the midst of Assholeville, USA.
