I'm from Minneapolis. But I don't think you'd want to meet my family.

I grew up just across the river from where the convention is being held. A tip for that neighborhood: avoid Maharaja's on West 7th unless you wanna buy some spanish fly and/or a samurai sword.

I never knew so many ninjas lived in St. Paul.

Any recommendations for places to stay near the Xcel Center, Jason? The Republicans want to shunt me off to an faraway hotel—I'd like to be within biking distance of the action, especially if bandana-clad protesters are going to shut down traffic.

I am SO looking forward to this.

Or not. I'll actually be in Seattle on a business trip (and to have a drink at the Blue Moon!) the weekend before the RNC starts, and fly back into town on the 1st - the day that the Shrub and Air Force One will be messing up air traffic at the MSP airport.

I miss being flyover country. I don't want these huge events that cost tons of money and mess up our streets. I don't want protesters from around the country coming into my town and screwing up the roads and mass transit.

Every once in a while, someone here gets it in their head that it would be a great idea for the Twin Cities to host the Olympics. Ugh.

Brendan, why are you visiting at this time? Please don't come and protest. We don't need more people screwing our city up that week. We don't want the RNC here, but they're already on their way. Protesters, please stay away.

No, 433, I'm not visiting to protest. I'm visiting to cover it.

Check out the Day's Inn on University Avenue, about 4-1/2 miles from the Xcel Energy Center. It's a good quick bike or bus ride, and should be outside of the RNC-controlled area.

It's a creative video, but I'll be very surprised if anything of any importance happens outside the convention. Young folks with bandannas over their faces won't make much of an impact regardless of the amount of zeal they have, the number of stones they throw and the loudness of their yelling. However a HUGE impact would be made if they would only get out and vote. We know most young folk can't be bothered to vote, it's more fun wearing black.

These assholes are going to show up, and they're going to ensure a McCain victory in the process. They should be drowned in canvas bags.

Hey, I'm in the Cities. Be sure to check out Matt's Bar (3500 Cedar Ave S, MPLS) for a Jucy Lucy.
Come on down to our house in the suburbs for a swim.

They run by Seward Cafe *and* Hard Times -- these are hippie ninjas.

Brendan, the other place to look for non-Downtown hotels is near the 3M campus.
