... from cressona: 1. Maria Cantwell. Wishy-washy, passionless, pandering, painless, politically correct, pareve. 2. Ed Rendell. Tough, no-nonsense, frank, fearless, occasionally stupid. What a contrast between Democratic politicians. It's a bit like the difference between Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill. I know Maria is the way she is because Washington is the way it is: a state full of Scandinavians and liberal intellectuals who are exceedingly polite, especially towards bullies like Tim Eyman and Kemper Freeman. But I would say, we're never going to overcome the Eymans and Freemans, and the next generation of Eymans and Freemans, until we start...

Maria is from Indiana. NOT the Northwest.

From fucking boring idiotic Flyover country.

And could not spell or grammar her way out of a paper bag.

She voted FOR
The Iraq War
All further enabling resolutions (until VERY recently)
The PATRIOT act, and all succeeding enlargements of it.

She is a process-Democrat, does not care about what the constituents want.

This is an amazing image portrayed of Maria given multiple firsthand reports from many who have worked with her that she's a controlling, micro-managing bitch.

Comment by Dave Upthegrove

As someone who was on the floor during Maria's brief speech (each female US Senator was given exactly 60 seconds), I don't know what Cressona was talking about. She was poised, direct, and spoke to an issue important to Washington. The delegation loved her and she was well received from inside the Pepsi Center. Rendell had way more time- he was a featured speaker. Yeah, they have somewhat different styles, but she is a strong woman who fights for our interests. She might not be as loud or blustery as Rendell, but she is great in her own right....

Comment by cressona

I guess it should come as no surprise that who should rush to Maria Cantwell's defense but Dave "let's pretend to care about climate change while we spend billions of dollars rebuilding the viaduct" Upthegrove.

To be honest, I didn't see Cantwell or Rendell's speeches. I was commenting about Maria Cantwell and Ed Rendell, the public persons. Upthegrove characterizes Cantwell as "a strong woman who fights for our interests." I characterize Cantwell as someone who goes out of her way to present a poll-tested, inoffensive image of being "a strong woman who fights for our interests."

How is it fighting for our interests when the one energy issue you try to be most identified with is that big, phony red herring of investigating the oil companies for price gouging?

I have no doubt that Maria Cantwell wants to be on the right side of these issues. The problem is you can't be on the right side of these issues without challenging voters. Look at her op-ed piece in last Friday's Seattle Times on this very subject of energy. Typical Cantwell. At no point does she challenge anybody. Instead, she offers drivel like this:

I had the pleasure of working with Sens. Obama and Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, to craft landmark legislation that would provide consumers up to $7,500 to buy plug-in electric cars, trucks or SUVs...

Don't worry, folks. Plug-in SUVs are right around the corner, and some other taxpayer is going to pick up your $7,500 tab.

But Cantwell has about as much desire to challenge voters as she does to challenge herself. Maybe if she had been someone who's inclined to challenge herself, she would have caught on that the little invasion of a sovereign nation she voted for had nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with oil.
