Slog Poll: Obama’s VP Pick (Final Round)

posted by on August 19 at 14:20 PM

With the lightning round finished, here comes the final round of Slog mob voting on Obama’s VP choice. First, auf Wiedersehen to: Michael Bloomberg, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Hagel, and Sam Nunn.

Now, the final round: Joe Biden vs. Bill Richardson.

This round lasts until 5 p.m., at which point we’ll know who you all believe Obama should choose as VP. Vote wisely. And remember, we’re talking here about who you think Obama should pick, not not who he will pick. There’s been a lot of chatter today about Obama’s choice being announced first thing tomorrow morning, so with any luck we won’t have long to wait before we find out how closely the Slog mind overlaps with the Obama mind.

Who should Obama pick as Vice President?

We need a "neither" category.

How did this happen.

See, this is what happens when you load the first round with obvious "Nos" like John Kerry; you end up knocking out real choices like Kathleen Sebelius (for instance) and we end up with this horrible choice.

@ Dan: Don't try to steal this binding runoff web election from the people!

It will be either Gore or Richardson. And I seriously would not dismiss Gore.

This would have worked waaay better as an instant runoff.

That's what happens when you let retarded picks like Sam Nunn and John Kerry make it the second round.

And Hagel.

And Bloomberg.

WTF?

It should be Richardson.

But it will be Sibelius.

I think Sebelius took herself out of contention early with that awful SotU response.

I actually like Richardson way more than Biden, but I voted Biden because I think he's a better electoral asset.

Both men are egomaniacal windbags prone to making gaffes. Biden is pithier. They're both corporate subsidiaries who represent powerful lobbies. Richardson's got the better resume, but Biden's better on TV.

Richardson would increase the Latino vote a bit, but probably lose at least as many from the covert racist part of the electorate. Biden brings no geographical or demographic advantage, and two Senators on one ticket is at least one too many.

It's a tough call, but in the end you go with the safer choice. It's Biden.

Eli, you've made a contradictory poll: you instruct us to vote for who he SHOULD pick, not WILL pick; then you're going to compare Slog result with the actual pick. In order for that to work, we sloggers oughta guess who he WILL pick. He SHOULD pick Al Gore, so as to include HRC's folks and silence any critism about foreign policy experience. He WILL (probably) pick Bayh or Kain, experienced wonks from battle grounds (or in the case of Bayh, potential battleground states).

Cascadian's got good points: it won't be Richardson, because two non-white guys is too much for the nation to handle; and Biden, a non-battle ground nobody, simply ask why?

NEITHER.

SAM NUNN FTW.

Actually, @17, according to the NIH and NIA, Richardson is a White Hispanic.

But, hey, if you've never been to Cuba, don't blame me for your lack of knowledge.

Bill Richardson has lady troubles that would make Bill Clinton blush. Which is why he's not really on the short list.

Very accurate, Will in Seattle. Alas, you're in the 5% of America who knows that such a (silly) distinction exists. To 95% of the country, he ain't white, he's Mexican.

And why do you have to bring up Cuba, compay?
