Re: Why is Everyone in Denver Crying All the Time?

posted by on August 28 at 16:45 PM

No sooner had I written this post than Annie Wagner and I found ourselves eating barbecue on Denver’s 16th Street Mall next to Cheryl Adams, a Hillary Clinton delegate from Cashmere, Washington.

She was still very raw about the experience of having to decide whether to stick with Clinton or not, but remains “very proud” about being one of the 25 or so Washington delegates who were ready to cast their vote for Clinton, no matter what, in the roll call vote.

The meeting Clinton held with all of her delegates on Wednesday was the toughest, Adams told us:

Talk about emotional. Oh my gosh. That’s when it got really hard. Because she was actually saying, ‘I want you to support him.’ But then she did specifically say, you know, ‘You can vote for me. I’m not telling you who to vote for.’ She kept saying that. She said, ‘But, we have to support him.’ So then you walk out and you’re like, ‘Oh my God it came right out of her mouth, it wasn’t just passed through her whip and through all those people down to us.’ And it was very hard.

Would she have listened if Clinton told her directly to vote for Obama? Doesn’t sound like it.

It just took me a second to remember why I came, and who sent me… I was like, I’m representing all those people who wanted to keep it going.

But, Adams added a few moments later, breaking into tears as she described the difficulty of coming to her decision after the meeting with Clinton:

This is the most intense thing I’ve ever been involved in… I’ve been crying for like three days… So I feel very emphatic, I feel very happy about my decision. And, you know, it’s Obama from here on out.

But, oh my gosh, this has just been—I need a vacation when I get home… You sleep four hours a night, you don’t eat all day, and don’t drink any water. I think I peed twice all day yesterday. This is insane!

This is why water bottles are important, but sadly security makes them impossible.

Who gives a shit about all this delegate drama? The only thing that matters is are they gonna come correct on the 4th or not?

Why are they crying?

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601068&sid=aMuMosauQxa4&refer=home

"Gross domestic product increased at a 3.3 percent annual pace, compared with the initial estimate of 1.9 percent, the Commerce Department said today in Washington. Trade contributed the most to U.S. growth in almost three decades. "

McCainonomics are bringing prosperity!!

But Obama was going to win no matter who the Clinton delegates voted for, How can a person get all emotional over a moot decision?

It's alright to cry. Crying gets the sad out of you.

@6, if one views a primary or delegate vote as "catharsis" rather than a straightforward democratic exercise, then perhaps it makes sense. But then perhaps this is also somehow linked to the reason they didn't win.

I'm sure she's a very nice lady, but she's a moron politically and a disaster as a delegate. She's getting all worked up about her allegiance to a self-serving liar -- and this is different from the loyalists in the Cheney White House how exactly? Her list of abusive ex-boyfriends must be a mile long.

No, sweetie, "this" isn't insane - "you" are. Seek help. And for God's sakes, do not - repeat, do NOT procreate.

you gys are so smart. HRC supporters are zombies without emotion; now they have too much emotion; your identity seems bvry bound up in defining them as the other.

Like, you know, the Obamatrons were never TOO EMOTIONAL about Obama. The guy who made Chris Matthews feel a chill run up his leg. And the OBamatrons were never morons like when they write about putting dynamite up HRC vagina as one did the other day.

Keep it up. The unity is working so well. Do you realize your comments get spread around the USA including rustbelt areas where Obama needs votes and is LOSING in part because some HRC supporters aren't coming over to your guy?

Y'all are quite the smooth ambassadors I must say.

Keep WHAT going? There isn't anything there. She lost. At no point during this week or month was Hillary's candidacy any more viable than mine was. Textbook delusion.
I mean, somewhere somebody's probably still carrying a torch for Adlai Stevenson, too.

17 - PC, the only moron here is you. not only can you not type, apparently you can't read either. the "dynamite up her vagina" comment was MOCKING a hillary hater. here:

"The only way Clinton would have satisfied some people (ahem #1) was if she shoved a stick of dynamite into her vagina and lit the fuse."

everytime i feel like i understand where hillary's die-hard supporters are coming from, you pipe up and ruin it. you're a pretty shitty embassador yourself. good thing your candidate lost.

Where's that Adam guy? Adam appreciates PC's contribution to the Slog. He's proof that not everyone hate her.

The fact that PC and Adam are the same person is unfortunate, of course. Very unfortunate indeed. But besides that...

I appreciate PC's contribution to Slog. And I am neither PC nor Adam nor a current or former Hillary supporter.

Julie, are you serious? Because if you are I would really love to hear why you think PC's posts constitute a contribution. Where do you see value in those streams of words? Maybe I'm blind to it and need help opening my eyes.

this is what caucuses do to people. if you went to yours, you know that choosing a candidate takes on a whole additional layer of meaning beyond casting a vote. people who got to the convention had to work really hard and make a lot of promises. Changing a vote feels like a huge breach of a social contract.

Posted by josh | August 28, 2008 7:00 PM

I also appreciate PC's posts.

Well, I'm emotional because things have gotten so bad so fast the last 8 years. Layer that on all the other reasons in Eli's original list.

Posted by chicagogaydude | August 28, 2008 7:06 PM
27

I am serious. PC's posts are more of a contribution in my opinion than Will in Seattle's (talk about streams of words). That guy can't put a coherent thought together to save his life.

People on Slog are/were ridiculous about Hillary and her supporters (again, coming from an Obama supporter). Hillary was a solid candidate and her supporters are not all emotion-driven middle-aged moms. So, I'm glad PC tries to remind us of that once in awhile....

Posted by Julie | August 28, 2008 7:29 PM

PC reminds us Hillary was a strong candidate? Well, fine if you say so.

I think Hillary speaks for herself just fine, and PC makes a travesty of the things Hillary stood for. PC makes Hillary's supporters look like they are mentally ill. I'd be embarrassed to have a ranting maniac spew lies for my candidate every day. And acting like a sore loser doesn't make Hillary look any better. You'd think she would at least take back the falsehoods she spread. But no way will she own up, huh?

Whatever. I don't doubt that PC will provide you with more and more of the same every day. That's what PC does. That's all she does! You can't stop her. She'll wade through you, reach down her own throat (gross!), and post her fucking heart out.

Watching Clinton's fans, I'm struck by the thought that they seem determined to reinforce all the worst stereotypes about women.

I can understand being disappointed that their candidate lost a close race. But this endless cycle of whining, of crying, the constant need for symbolic recognition of Clinton, the need to vilify Obama (who overlaps 90% with Clinton on key issues), the threats to switch sides and vote for McCain if she isn't given enough respect and on and on.

All of it adds up to "I'm an overwrought creature who makes my decisions based on emotions rather than facts."

@30,

Well, this one says she's going to vote for Obama. So what the fuck are you talking about?

Posted by keshmeshi | August 28, 2008 10:54 PM
32

Yes, she's voting for Obama but it obviously wasn't an easy choice for her, she's very upset about the whole situation. We're talking about fuc*ing politicans, not someone asking her to betray her best friend.

All this focus on personalities and emotions, rather than issues, is bad for politics (and that's happening on both the Obama and Clinton side). Frankly, it's more than bad, it's scary.

Because if Clinton declared tomorrow that we need to bomb Iran 80% of these fangirls would nod their head and go along with it. And the same is true for a core group of the Obama supporters.

Gawd, it is just an election! there is one every 4 years. And after the acclimation vote, doesn't she feel silly getting all worked up over something that passed her right by?

This is insane. People are insane. People like this run our country. This isn't healthy. It's not just the GOP that's fucked in the head, people. It's people in BOTH major parties. The Dems are just fucked in the head in different ways.
