Annie says: "Let's all declare war on Joe Lieberman." Some of us declared war on Lieberman back in 2006: The money I sent to Lamont was, in my booze- and Catholicism-addled brain, penance for my support for the invasion of Iraq. I couldn't take back my cheerleading but I could help take out—out of the Senate, at least—one of the biggest backers of the war. But I was also motivated by a loathing of Joe "No Morality Without Religion" Lieberman that predated Iraq. And here's an interesting detail that I didn't write about in 2006: When I was raising money...

"Now my cousing regrets not supporting Lamont.."

Fucking Christ, maybe if voters actually paid attention they would have voted with the brains and supported the better candidate in the first place. I have zero pity for any voter who makes uninformed choices at the polls (and most of the time uninformed by choice) and whine about it later on.

Also, the actual quote:

"In the same speech, Lieberman declared that without the Jewish and Christian traditions, the phrase "all men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence "could never have been written." In another recent sound bite, Lieberman warned against "indulg[ing] the supposition 'that morality can be maintained without religion.'"

You think money can buy off guilt? Man, you really are Catholic. Still, only a complete dumb ass couldn't have seen the whole Iraq debacle coming a million miles away. How ironic that you write advice columns and STILL dispense opinions on paper and on TV as if you had a single ounce of credibility.

>> Still, only a complete dumb ass couldn't have seen the whole Iraq debacle coming a million miles away.

At exactly what point did you know that Iraq was a debacle?

I opposed it from the first moment I heard of it. (Pre-invasion) I was very naieve - and belived *MY* country should never invade another.

Since then, I've learned my country has invaded and/or interfered with other countries practically since its founding.

I'm not totally excusing Dan's poor judgement back then (nor his unmitigated hatred of all pit bulls), but he was hardly the only one. He LEARNED and changed his mind. If one cannot be forgiven after such a change, then God help us all.

Dan has an admirable sense of observation and applies the knowledge he gains to other situations.

Congratualtions to you, Fruitbasket, if you've never made a mistake - and if you've never attempted to atone. You're one in a zillion.

The appearance of George W. Bush, via birth or whatever other means, natural or unnatural, was already a debacle. Whatever subsequent actions initiated by George W. Bush can only continue to yield negative results. Examples: his years as an "oil man", his failed Congressional run, his stint as owner of a baseball team. As governor for the state of Texas, he was often in the news for his unsuppressed glee when performing his job as a very busy Executioner General. How could anyone have expected the Iraq folly to be anything other than a fiasco on all levels?
