Of course, in this case the reasons why a Democrat would have to be more careful about making sexist remarks are pretty obvious. They have to deal with the ideological-purity wing of their own party, which carefully parses every word and picture for signs of insensitivity. The equivalent for a Republican would be accidentally implying that they don't take every word in the King James Bible to be literal truth.

Bragging to a crowd of bikers that your wife could win a wet t-shirt contest is evidently not a deal-breaker for his constituency. It just proves he's a regular guy.
