For some reason McCain gets a free pass. Hell, CBS re-edits interviews with McCain to eliminate his factual misstatements. His complaints that his opponent is the media darling are hilarious in light of the kid-glove treatment he routinely receives, but then again he gets to say demonstrably false things like that all the time without getting called on it.

Of course, in this case the reasons why a Democrat would have to be more careful about making sexist remarks are pretty obvious. They have to deal with the ideological-purity wing of their own party, which carefully parses every word and picture for signs of insensitivity. The equivalent for a Republican would be accidentally implying that they don't take every word in the King James Bible to be literal truth.

Bragging to a crowd of bikers that your wife could win a wet t-shirt contest is evidently not a deal-breaker for his constituency. It just proves he's a regular guy.

What's the demographic at that thing these days? I mean, how many of those guys are just post-midlife-crisis accountants, lawyers, and midlevel managers as opposed to ex-con drug running alcoholic gang members?

But whatever winning Miss Buffalo Chip actually entails, McCain was just working an inside reference into his bit. Just like a comedian starts off with a couple sheet metal jokes when addressing the sheet metal convention.

Why is ECB not writing about how racist, sexist, and just plain old Sen "S&L-stolen-dollars" McCain is?
