I'm surebthatbwhile thing was vetted by o's team. It looks worse on paper than it sounds. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Will make for some great GOP bumperstickers though.

Yeah, I'm already seeing "Obama bin-Biden" jokes on some other blogs.

s/b/s/, s/d/n Lad/

Yeah that seems about right.

Jesus Christ, people. This is utter and complete nonsense. People are worried about how their names SOUND?

Those children at UW really shouldn't be so concerned about what they think the "average" American can stomach.

Obama/Biden '08!!!

"He's a good candidate, I agree with him on all the issues, but his name kinda sounds like Osama, so fuck him."

Absolutely NOBODY thinks this way. The people who cast doubt on Obama because of his name are Republicans looking for the cheapest of cheap shots.

That's a stretch.

Posted by raindrop | August 23, 2008 10:33 AM

why were you in a dorm?

Posted by brad | August 23, 2008 10:48 AM

@5 and @6, I don't know if you've noticed, but there are people in this world who are stupid and petty.

There's no place that makes it easier to be stupid and petty than the privacy of a voting booth.

Fortunately, I suspect that most of these people are already planning to vote for McCain.

@3 - me too
dlisted has my fave, BamBi

Never, ever, under any circumstances underestimate the reactionary political stupidity of the unengaged American.

Posted by Andy Niable | August 23, 2008 11:39 AM

Dan Savage hangs out in dorms?

Posted by whatevernevermind | August 23, 2008 12:03 PM

Sorry! Reading comprehension -- it's not just for nerds anymore!

Posted by whatevermind | August 23, 2008 12:05 PM

How can Republicans be so gay with Dick and Bush in the White House?

Posted by Sirkowski | August 23, 2008 12:11 PM

Okay, time to offend you sensitive native Northwesterners. But only in the NW would folks think they sound phonetically the same. Stop being so scared.

Posted by Grow up! | August 23, 2008 12:17 PM

It's not like people who give a shit about that kind of thing would ever vote for Obama anyway.

Posted by Darcy | August 23, 2008 12:43 PM

Now, who is this Osama Bin Laden person again? Is he the one who directed The Sixth Sense?

Posted by monkey | August 23, 2008 1:27 PM

Dan, why are you acting like a troll? I think THAT's the real issue here.

Posted by Spanky MacFarland | August 23, 2008 1:32 PM

never underestimate non average voters to underestimate what the average voter actually cares about.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | August 23, 2008 1:38 PM

Posted by Kemper | August 23, 2008 11:47 PM

I'm now all about "Jo'Bama!"

Posted by catnextdoor | August 24, 2008 1:58 AM

Sounds like Bush/McCain to me.

Posted by Will in Seattle | August 24, 2008 10:51 AM

dan wasn't in the dorms. read.

Posted by slog tipper | August 24, 2008 1:02 PM

I'm far more concerned about Biden's plagiarism issues, valid or not. By law school, he hadn't yet learned how to attribute a source? Talk about dirt.

Why didn't he pick someone with serious bipartisan credentials like Sebelius, or a higher-profile dude like Richardson?

Posted by JME | August 24, 2008 9:14 PM

jme, good question. i guess he thought he couldn't risk having a woman or hispanic on his already afro-american ticket. too shocking for the joe luchbuckets. he may be right.

Posted by ellarosa | August 24, 2008 9:45 PM

Someone said it = someone thought of it. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

Posted by charm | August 25, 2008 10:51 AM

It is already avaialble as a coffee mug.

There is never anything which people will not try to exploit for profit.

Posted by inkweary | August 25, 2008 12:31 PM

A bit more googling shows that this litle joke has been making the rounds of conservative blogs for the past few weeks.
The person overheard at the dorm is probably a tool.
