Obama’s Made His Choice

posted by on August 21 at 19:13 PM

And he’s fucking with us now, drawing out the announcement, and that—as evidenced by the top story on Drudge right now—is a wise move.

More wise moves, Obama, and more attacks. The housing stuff was good today. Drawing out the VP announcement is good. Keep it up.

I hope it's Screech.

"Arrogant? I'll show you arrogant! I'll pick a has-been character actor for my running mate! And I'm only doing that because I can't pick myself."

Sorry, but I still can't get over him not fucking attacking. It's simple: "John McCain spent 5 years as a POW in Viet Nam, but he's done nothing honorable since." then repeat Keating 5/divorced wife/GW ad infinitum.

And for fucks sake lose the nuance. You can explain all you fucking want but that style will always lose against someone who sounds passionate.

You heard it here first -- Obama's unexpected veep choice is Erica C. Barnett

Americans don't vote for people that hide the truth from them, as eight years of George W. Bush can attest.

Once again, Savage weighs in only after KOS, Huffington, and all the other IMPORTANT blogs provide some insight. Seriously Savage, can you pick yourself for ridiculous hack of the day? Oh, and be sure to respond to this with some lame, half ass ad hominem. I wouldn't expect anything less.

First off, @6, no one's forcing you to read. Go away.

Second, I find it equally frustrating yet relieving to see that Senator Obama seems to be waiting for just the right moment to pounce all over McCain. Did you see how fast his campaign was on this today? They know what they're doing.

I hope I'm not wrong, but I get the feeling they're letting the McCain campaign wear itself out of negative attacks. I really don't think those stupid 'celebrity' attacks are gonna stick as well as this housing thing, once the conventions have passed.

It's gonna be Steve Jobs.

Perhaps this was covered, but apparently he said the VP choice is someone who's independent, "he" will push me in debating policy in the white house, and "he" is strong on the economy.

Well that's HRC obviously. It certainly doesn't describe Biden, he had no economic gravitas.

BTW the VP teasing is good for getting more e mail addresses but not much else and it will be forgotten as soon as VP choice is made; meanwhile it is obsuring his economic message which is needed to get the swing voters on board.

what is his plan for helping Mr. and Mrs. Bubba in Raccon Township PA, in ten words or less?

I can't say what it is either.

Whoever he picks, I'm certain that by Saturday, they will have only one home.

All he's doing with this really is pissing off the reluctant supporters. The ones who haven't been mindlessly chanting his name since day one, and are like "Well, I agree with most of his positions...and don't like how McCain's suddenly become a neocon puppet. Guess I'll vote for Obama."

Really Obama, I might feel less like I was picking the lesser of two evils if you'd send me a friggen' text message when you decided like you said you would. Breaking promises to the American people already I see.

@10 - Repeal Bush tax cuts for wealthy, cut taxes for everyone else. (Ok, that was eleven words, but come on.)

Also: universal health care (potentially single-payer), get their kids out of Iraq, and deal (long-term) with the energy crisis.

Is that so fucking hard? Anybody who's paid attention to anything but Fox News should know that by now.

obama would have to raise someone from the dead for his VP choice to not be anti-climactic at this point.

All of this build up is not going to make Joe Biden or some hick from Indiana with Y in his name or surprisingly unsurprising HRC or a swing state token half as thrilling as the shell game.

Doesn't obama realize we have had a few elections before this one...we know how this part of it goes: He announces his choice then we find something else to talk about.

More and more the blogguerie sounds like Sondheim's lyrics to the "The Ladies Who Lunch". Obama owes you nothing - a timely announcement - a hint - whatever he gives you, you will - like O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Medved - find fault.

This cyberspace election is the first one where the selection of a Veep candidate has stirred up so much anticipatory, tea leaf reading. And in my long political life, I have never known anyone that was committed to a specific candidate NOT vote for that candidate because of his Veep selection.

So - like Jonathan Horton - get a grip...and enjoy whipping around the high bar for the next 70 days until we either stick it or we don't.

Dan,

What I don't understand is why they are announcing the VP choice on a Saturday. NO ONE reads the news on Saturday. Why not wait until Monday, and do it when everyone is at work, trolling CNN?

Also, why did he say that he has picked and that he isn't telling us yet. It makes him sound like an asshat. Goddamn you Obama, if you lose this election I'll best #21's left nut.

Yes, he's ramping up the excitement and messing with us a bit, but he's also messing with McCain. I think Obama has been pretty clever about this. The buzz was that he would announce on Wednesday, which led the McCain camp to plan for a Friday announcement, thinking they would "own the weekend." Obama stalls, generates buzz, and will announce at some point today. McCain can either try to compete with that or wait till next week some time. Most likely he'll have to wait now, giving Obama several huge press days leading in to the convention.

@5 that is weird. i had no clue there was a little toby keith saga going on...

the racism accusations stemming from his obama acts white comments coupled with his "lynching" song... followed by an endorsement of obama courtesy of the red, white, and blue.

these are strange times; perhaps you can't judge a book by its opening chapter. perhaps america is changing, growing up like a awkward adolescent.
