2008 Obama Excerpts

While they’re setting up the stage for Stevie Wonder I’ll give you guys some Obama speech excerpts they passed us a short time ago:
We meet at one of those defining moments—a moment when our nation is at war, our economy is in turmoil, and the American promise has been threatened once more.Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit card bills you can’t afford to pay, and tuition that is beyond your reach.
These challenges are not all of government’s making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush.
America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.
Scanning the rest of the excerpts, the speech seems very nuts-and-bolts, and very tough. People have been saying Obama needs to soar a little closer to the ground tonight. I think, based on these excerpts, that he’s going to do it.
No time to re-type more of the speech for you, but there are additional excerpts here.
I'm sure it is really tempting to post this kind of thing when you get an advance copy like this. It's sort of a scoop (albeit a scoop everyone in the press has).
But please resist the urge to post part of their speech before they even give it. It is one of my pet peeves. I really hate it.
I want to see/hear the speech first, then refer later to the text if I want to re-examine part of it, or think I missed something.
I don't want to read the speech before it is even delivered. It's like a spoiler for a movie. Kind of ruins the suspense. And especially when only posting a small excerpt, it lacks any context.
