What gives? McCain opens his mouth and everyone's shushing him lest they get their Obama text in mid-rant. It's brilliant, and it could last another day or three!
A friend of mine in NYC says she got the text announcement just now, and it was Hillary, but for whatever reason, my friend isn't 100% sure it's for real.
Is your friend named PC?
Just kidding, but nothing on NYT's website . . . yet.
he just called. it's me!
Geesh, what's your Rush Traitor Limbaugh?
Nothing on my cell phone yet....
Yeah I don't think it is, because I'm signed up for it too and I haven't gotten anything. 8-)
But yeah, doesn't he know we're, like, on pins and needles here? Huh? Doesn't he?
Every move Obama's made (especially the important endorsement announcements) has been strategically timed. I suspect the same will determine when he announces his VP choice.
But I remind y'all--the convention votes on President and Vice-President on SEPARATE ballots. Regardless of whom Obama says he wishes to run with him, it's the delegates who make the final determination. Don't count out the P.U.M.A.s and their possible monkeywrenches just yet...
Well, turns out my friend's text was a crank.
the Obama VP suspense sure has the Obama base atwitter, hanging on every word, not even noticing that when the campiagn says the VP choice could be announced Wednesday am that menas....it might not be.
Big fat fucking duh.
Meanwhile, this media hype over his VP pick is ahem obscuring his economic message and dpoing absolutely nothing to help him connect with that middle swing voter slice of the electorate who aren't even for him, so they don't really give a shit who his VP is.
This drawn out VP choice thing IOW is an error.
Meanwhile @3 do you have any substantive resopnse at all to the basic argument that (a) it's tied therefore (b) we could LOSE THE ELECTION therefore (c) since HRC raises the D vote in the polls by about 6 points and she got 18 million votes etc. then (d) he should pick her, you know, in order to WIN THE ELECTION except that he won't because (d) people like you are too selfish and arrogant and act like it's not worth bothering getting the full bore support of the entire near-half of the party that went for her in the primaries?
In other words, we are on a course to lose this election, due to hubris, and it's in part your fault.
Any response that is not a challenge to the facts or logic will only confirm what I am saying.
I just got a text that said "Poe-bama 08."
My god....could it be true??? They'll carry every old folks' home from here to Parsippany.
"Nurse, get that vice-president in here right now. I need to hide him in my undisclosed location!"
It's right out of Burroughs...
Wasn’t Obama supposed to announce his running mate, like, today
"Supposed to" according to whom? Pundits? Anonymous sources? There was no official word that he was announcing today. The latest rumor is that he'll be announcing on Friday.
@11: I don't see much logic in your argument, but there is a great article about Obama's economic platform on the New York Times website. Might be long for some, but it's one of the most e-mailed. At present there's no article on the NYT's front page regarding the VEEP suspense, which would seem to me to be at odds with the idea that the media hype is as bad as you believe. The world's still turning.
We could lose the election for any number of reasons. As a believer in democracy, I supported the candidate that I believed would make the most capable commander-in-chief. If that's hubris, we're all pretty fucked, ain't we?
The Obama campaign is gaming the hell out of this. The media is totally focused on the artificial drama of the veepstakes and is whipping themselves into a greater and greater frenzy, which has the added benefit of reducing coverage of McCain's campaign and keeping Obama's name in the media, all without the Obama campaign spending another dollar on commercials.
This reflects my bias as an IT guy in the Apple market space, but it reminds me of an Apple product announcement. VP as iPhone: "He's your vice presidential candidate, and also a breakthrough Internet communications device."
Of course, in order for this to work, the final choice needs to be surprising and inspired.
I will be selecting Michael Bloomberg as my running mate. This is due to his incorrigable ability to handle finances, his pro green tendancies (he rides a bike to work!) and his 400 million dollar campaign chest that I will use to buy off all of John Mccain's staff.
Biden says it's not him.
Jeez I almost don't care anymore, if Obama doesn't stop being a complete pussy and start knocking the shit outta McCain soon it isn't gonna matter who he picks. My head is going to explode if I hear him mention McCain's service one more time.
You really want to know? Okay, I'll tell you: There's no *way* the Obama camp comes out with an announcement while the "I don't know how many houses I have..." meme is getting any play whatsoever. And that's as it should be.
