i thought this ad was pretty lame. i think it makes mccain seem a little more human and good natured, which was not the intention i'm sure. if this is the best the obama camp can do to "strike back", we should all be worried.

I think the ad was more about tying McCain to Bush than anything else. Like that Gregorie ad about how Rossi is a George Bush Republican.

Rove, et al attack their opponents' strengths (Gore's too smart, Kerry's a vet, Obama's too popular) and the Dems simply counter.

The ad is really about tying Bush to McCain, but by superficially "responding" to the Celebrity ad, they've made certain it'll be a topic of discussion for the very serious Washington punditocracy.

Hmm, human and good-natured. Whom does that remind me of?... Oh yeah, George W. "Recovering Alcoholic You'd Most Like to Have a Beer With" Bush.

I'm perfectly fine seeing McCain cast as a likable phony, so long as it pivots on what matters--policies and issues.

I like the "when washington embraced him..." bit, but the rest just seemed too light and not-serious. Leave the fluff bullshit to McCain - let him dig himself into one big pit of stupid.
