Interviewing the Gov

posted by on August 6 at 10:50 AM

The Stranger Election Control Board’s editorial endorsements for this month’s primary election will hit the streets (and go up online) later today. In the meantime, please enjoy this edited video of the SECB’s interview with Gov. Christine Gregoire, in which the Gov gives us what-for on Sound Transit, tells us what her priorities will be if she’s reelected, and rips into Republican Dino Rossi for criticizing her close relationship with the state’s Native American tribes.

I knew she didn't actually drink a beer.

Liboire is really playing up the "native" thing. The gambling, the eye numbing blazer...pretty soon she'll be taking the duelie to Muckleshoot for slots and dancing to Creedence Clearwater Revisited at EQC.

@2: I don't think it's all that liberal to call a fucking spade a spade. That ad was racist because it plays up hostilities toward/ misunderstandings about native gaming, a right that is federally mandated. Sour grapes on Rossi's part.

I like this side of Gregoire, and wish that we saw it more often.

bronkitis, you know where the phrase "call a spade a spade" comes from, right?

@6: I did not. I, stupidly enough, assumed it had something to do with playing cards (because it's something my grandma used to say a lot and she was more a card player than one to dabble in racist euphemisms).

Someone needs to seriously talk to this person about her bedside manner....

@9: If you are referring to me, rest your priggish concern and know I have learned my lesson. Never again will I utter any archaic phrases with no ill will that originated 2000 years ago in any company, and certainly not in the ever polite, politically correct, and hallowed halls of the internets.

@10, fear not. My reference was to the candidate. I hope the interviewer survived the encounter with only minor flesh wounds.

The line about going to jail and her reaction were priceless. What I would give for her to not make the top two!

Way to go Dan...try to pigeon hole her on marriage equality, even though we all know she'd sign it if the legislature was even ABLE to pass it. Let's give her some breathing room, she's done a lot for us in 4 years.

People who call the ad racist are liars or idiots.

Take your pick.

Simply calling them "tribes" is not racist. Everyone, including the tribes, refer to them that way. So what about it is racist?

Nothing, of course. You just throw out the word and hope it will stick because you don't give a damn about truth and facts.

This woman is a joke. She has been a joke since she took office. She has done nothing but make Washington her playground. Seriously, she thinks the old lady commercial was racist. I laughed and thought it was great! She needs to take a second look from a citizens point of view (the ones she is suppose to be representing) and not from the point of view that will benefit her campaign for re-election.

funnygal, she didn't think it's racist. She thinks you're stupid and she can convince you it's racist. She is insulting our intelligence and I think I will not be able to vote for her again becuase of it. It is really insulting and appalling.

I might hate her by November...hell, September for that matter.
