Film In Case You Didn’t See This Over the Weekend

onThe trailer for An American Carol has been all over the Internet, but I don’t believe that it’s officially made Slog yet, so I thought I’d give you all something to help settle your lunch-heavy stomachs. It’s a conservative-leaning spoof movie about a Michael Moore-type left-wing documentarian named Michael Malone (Chris Farley’s little brother) who is visited by three right-wing spirits (including Kelsey Grammer as General Patton). Apparently, the movie is about how war can be useful and America is THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD MOTHERFUCKERS.
This is the money shot “joke” that’s already being discussed (and is not in the trailer) from The Weekly Standard:
Zucker is plainly not worried about offending anyone. David Alan Grier plays a slave in a scene designed to show Malone what might have happened if the United States had not fought the Civil War. As Patton explains to a dumbfounded Malone that the plantation they are visiting is his own, Grier thanks the documentarian for being such a humane owner. As they leave, another slave, played by Gary Coleman, finishes polishing a car and yells “Hey, Barack!” before tossing the sponge to someone off-camera.
The movie will be out in October.

Does Gary Coleman have no shame?
I just puked all over my desk.......
BTW, Straight to video.
I'm surprised Gary Coleman isn't polishing the insides of artillery shells.
I guess this is what Willis was talkin' 'bout.
WTF: Rosie O'Donnell?
Meh. Like Carlos Mencia, the only thing offensive about this movie will be how unfunny it is.
@4,
Apparently it's a Rosie impersonator (who knew?), not Rosie herself.
Funny how they have to set the Wayback machine for sixty plus years ago to find someone who could make war look good. I'm sure the movie will discuss why Vietnam and Iraq were such great ideas, but they didn't have enough time in the trailer.
Agree with #5. It's producers will no doubt try to get some traction with a "the film they don't want you to see!!!" argument, but that won't make it funny.
I actually think Michael Moore is complete blowhard, and I'm usually his side of the issues. But like Scary Movie and its ilk, this "joke" formula (make out-of-place reference + people will get reference = hilarity!) is lazy and offensive.
With the occasional exception of South Park, Republicans aren't funny and should just stop trying.
Fuck. Do I have to hate Airplane now?
@ 9—Matt Stone and Trey Parker, I believe, are more in the Libertarian camp than anything.
@1: Gary Coleman has no job.
Republicans are such morons. Only assholes who call themselves "liberals" would say we shouldn't have fought the Revolutionary War, Civil War or WW2. Those were wars of necessity rather than the wars of choice such as Viet Nam and Iraq.
So in other words they're only half Republican? That explains why they're half funny.
You know, for a straight-to-video spoof, that article sure goes on for a lot of words. Like anyone gives a shit about the political views of marginal celebrities and has-beens.
14: Yeah, the liberatarianism is often where their stupid side comes from. These are two guys who vote Republican in every election to "defy" the Hollywood left afterall. How smart can they be?
That's LIBERTARIANISM btw. I packed too many syllables in there.
@13,
Considering the Republican love for race baiting, it's amazing that they'd look on the Civil War favorably, even if it was led by a Republican.
Very true about the crying censorship thing. Over at imdb the newbies must not know about the ever-present trolls that turn up on every movie's message board and scream "This movie will SUCK!".
Of COURSE, it will suck, idiot. EVERY movie sucks to some people, but surprisingly not to everyone.
It would be a huge relief to see it go straight to video stores though. Anything that blatantly political should be rewarded with the straight to video status. Even the serious documentaries don't usually get a huge opening. Don't most people just want to entertained and not preached to?(Not counting the Smug Smog makers, of course. ;)
