I noticed Dubya doing this during the ceremony and, though I am far from being a dyed-red-white-and-blue patriot was appalled that he would use the American flag as a toy or diversion. I thought his behavior was decidedly un-presidential.

Really? Appalled? He was diddling with a dinky toy flag while watching the Olympics; hardly wiping his ass with it before lighting it on fire, and quite honestly is one of the more banal things he's done during the presidency. Big whoop. Let's talk about the allegations that China's using 12-year-olds in the competitions instead; now THAT'S some hot, spicy controversy.

It ain't a big deal if Bush does it because a sizable majority of the American population already thinks that he's mildly retarded. Those who work with the mentally-handicapped would refer to this as "stimming".

I think politicians and the press wasting our time over issues like fidgeting with a flag...or, say, where and how often someone wears a flag pin...while the current administration has been shitting all over what the flag represents is exactly the point.

As a separate issue - George's bored expression as he leaned backward with his legs open, as Laura sat primly at his side with a look of disappointment, reminded me of no one so much as Al and Peg Bundy.
