A Reader Asks…

posted by on August 25 at 13:52 PM

Can Slog point me in the direction of a bar that will be showing Michelle Obama’s speech tonight? Thanks.—Joe

My boyfriend is threatening to kick me out of the house tonight, so I’d kinda like to know where I can sit and drink and watch the Michelle’s speech too. Anybody?

Spitfire - with 22 TV's, and great sound, and you can watch the Hawks in another part of the bar too

I was wondering the same thing down here in SF. Does anyone know a bar in SF (preferrably along Divis/western addition somewhere) that will be showing Michelle's speech?

and what time is it at? 6 or 7?

I would think the Montlake Ale House (home of Drinking Libarally) would be a good bet.

However, with the Olympics now over, and with the M's going up against the Twins this evening, I would think most anyplace with at least two TV's would probably be willing to turn one of them over to the Dem convention.

I was just sighing over the fact that right now, sitting and drinking is no fun due to quitting smoking (even though we can't smoke in bars here in Ohio, I still always looked forward to having a big drink, then going outside all buzzed for a nice smoke). Any of you out there former smokers know if drinking will become fun again? or have I been suddenly deprived of two vices just because I wanted to abolish one?

(really, this was the first thing I thought of when I read Dan's post)

What time is the speech? I may have to DVR it.

But the offer of the Spitfire seems tempting... hum, anyone else on Slog wanna meet up there?

PS on Spitfire - according to their awesome GM Mandy, they will be showing the speech in the backroom so the sound is good and the screen is large, and there's a dedicated bar back there.

Most bars may put it on, but Columbia City Alehouse said they could only put on sports. We were trying to watch results on primary night.

I'd be game for a Spitfire (or wherever) meetup.

#9 If enough people descended upon the Alehouse and said they wanted to watch the speech while ordering pitchers of beer, they would be crazy not to do it. Call them again and see if they will do it.

I will be watching it in the lobby of my nursing home with a bunch of staff members, most from West Africa, all Obama supporters. Hopefully the conservatives in the home will be asleep by the time Michelle and Catherine speak.

Spitfire's good. That would be fun - and good preparation for the 43rd Dems watch party on Thursday nite (also at Spitfire).

So, what time?

@15

Stay home. "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" is on. Doesn't do me any good if the bar is crowded.

Oh, wait. My bank account has $1.97 in it. I guess I'm staying in tonight. LOL

But y'all enjoy the Obama babymama spectacular.
