Dear slart....

I do believe that soon you'll be hearing angelic voices coming to you from bangor maine...

Perhaps from an old novel in the capricorus constellation of King.

Peter? Are you friends with Daniel Bennett Kienecker? Friends inside his head, perhaps?

I can't wait to get home and watch this. You don't have to be a mo to love some Eydie (or so I always claim).

Connie Francis? The Italian?! No way. And can Connie act? Was SHE ever in her own Broadway show, hmm?

Come on folks, the last note kicks ass. Eydie rocks. rocks.

I thought she got him away from Rona Barrett.

But I wish she'd leave that poor song alone. Dang. She beats the crap out of it.

Oh, IMM. Really? You think she beats the crap out of it? I like her effervescent steeliness. Sing out, Eydie!

Eydie is a monster talent. I'm with Balt-O-Matt on this one. Steve Lawrence was terrible, he rode her coattails his whole career. He dragged her down. She could have been Keely Smith or Peggy Lee without his mush-headed no-talent act. Connie Francis, really? Connie couldn't sing her way out of a paper bag, she was sub-Theresa Brewer, maybe even sub-Patti Page, and I don't think you can get any lower than that. Connie Francis made music for the simple-minded. Eydie was a jazz artist.

@7, I was always an Eydie fan, but my supa-babe is Julie London. Whom I'm sure you despise.

Despise Julie London? Mais non. She's not my favorite, but she's definitely got an aura. No jazz, but a husky, cool style for a white pop singer, sort of a Chris Connor or maybe June Christy minus the jazz. I do usually prefer the brassy ones, though. Julie had a terrific rack, too, but not as terrific as Abbe Lane. Vavoom!

I'm a "One Note Samba" fan myself. Plus I snort a ton of Ritalin @10, enough for the both of us.

she was in golden rainbow with hubby steve. read about it in 'the season' by william goldman. or maybe it was james goldman. great book about the 67-68 broadway season. and yes, fnarf, connie wasn't all complicated, but she's kitschy fun. shall we talk girl singers next time we meet, my friend?

Yes, let's. I haven't even mentioned Eartha, Pearl, Ella, or Billie yet, let alone Ella Mae Morse. Or the country girls.
