An aside from this messed-up situation: Knowing what the maturity level of the average 20 year old is like, I find it amusing to see a 20 year old referred to as a "man".

Looks like the culmination of a dispute between two kids to me.

Why on earth would someone think that they should resort to shooting someone? Did he really think that it wouldnt get him in trouble, that he wouldnt get caught? What a fucking idiot. I'd like to know who his parents are and what they have to say for themselves.

I agree with #8. At 15 you do kinda know better but you don't have the same brain function as an adult. Scientifically, they don't have fully developed functioning and reasoning skills.

Hence why we charge adults different than kids. Jesus. Put him in Juvie, and send him through therapy so he can be a good citizen when he gets out.

Morality/ethics aside, if KCPAO files attempted murder or assault 2 with a deadly weapon enhancement, the statute dictates that he's charged as an adult.

And while you're certainly right about the biology Original Monique @10, you may not have spent a lot of time around juvie. The recidivism rates for their violent offenders are extremely high, even with therapy, etc. Not sayin' that adult prison's would do him much better, of course....

Why does Slog post about in-city shootings? It's like, you want to pretend to cover real news, but only if it happens in Cap Hill, Belltown, or the CD.

I mean, more serious crimes than attempted murder happen in the metro area, but you won't see it in the Slog or Stranger.

Of course this kid should be charged as an adult. After all, we give 15 year-olds all the same rights, privileges, and respect as adults, so why not punish them that way?

The 20 year old was about to drive a car so he was probably going to inconvenience a bicyclist and pollute the Earth so he HAD to be shot.

i'd rather charge him as a juvenile, but have a harsher sentence with stricter requirements. why are juvie and adult the only options? can't we charge him based on age, and sentence based on age? he's not an adult, but he's not a child either.

@12--Actually, the statute (RCW 13.04.030) says that adult court automatically has jurisdiction over those charges if the person charged is 16 or 17. If he's 15, either charge requires the juvenile court judge to decide whether the case will be tried as an adult or juvenile.
