Religion Youth Pastor Watch

onUh… after running YPW all these years, I can’t help but wonder if this was a good idea.
“I’ve always wanted to take my dad to my senior prom ever since I was a little girl,” Ashley Nicely said. “I really look up to him. He sets a great example, and there’s no one I’d rather take than him.”And she admitted that she had options. She said she turned down a handful of guys from school so she could fulfill her childhood wish.
Troy Nicely, a youth pastor, said he was surprised but honored to take his daughter [to prom].

Yeah, I bet he was really "surprised." Go Nicely!
sick. sick. sick sick sick.
West Virginia. Fish in a barrel.
Listen up Ona, West Virgina poice, I think you should make sure there is no incest going on there.
and reading that article with the comments.... everyone saying how wonderful ti is. I think it's creepy. Taking your dad to prom? ugh!
I wonder if she too lost her virginity on prom night like the rest of us.
What's so sick about this? Is it that difficult to envision a healthy relationship between a father and daughter that doesn't involve sex?
No, @6, but a healthy relationship between a father and a daughter doesn't involve taking her to the prom.
He should just take her out behind the barn like normal West Virginians do.
Sensational innuendo aside, there are obvious problems with this, but nothing really worse than a college-aged mama's boy, certainly nothing that warrants our concern from the far side of the continent.
Toothpaste was invented in West Virginia. Do you know how you can tell?
No. How?
Otherwise, it would be called teethpaste.
Badumpbump. Thanks, you've been great.
I guess it's only a little creepy, and maybe even sweet, if a girl wants to take her dad to the prom. I have certainly taken my daughter to a father-daughter dance before, and it's kind of fun. But it is really creepy that the dad would want to go. He's the adult, after all, and he should have told his daughter that it would be inappropriate for him to be there partying among a bunch of 17 year old girls. I wonder what the parents of the other girls would think? It's not like he was a chaperone or anything. Presumably, he was out on the floor.
Youth pastors like to get their freak dance on too.
Anybody else besides me watch Venture Bros? Sergeant Hatred, anyone?
After reading Herald Dispatch comments like:
"You have made it an extra special night that you and your father will never forget."
or this little gem:
"Every girl should have a steady experienced hand to guide her in the ways of love. Thanks, Daddy!"
I wondered, what would the response be if it was a teenage male bringing his mom to senior prom? Would they revoke his man-card?
So I'll be the creep here--she's pretty attractive.
Snarky incest jokes aside, it seems more probable that the girl is just really immature and socially maladjusted. So, she'd rather go to an important high school event with a parent rather than with a peer.
You'd think after Dan running YPW all these years that the word would be out to ALL youth pastors to mind their p's and q's even refraining from quite possibly innocent father daughter activities.
Yet.
Reminds me of the Purity ceremonies I've read about. Where the Daughter pledges her loyalty and virtues to her father until she gets married. (or something along those lines, don't have the article in front of me) I'm all for respeting your parents but this is just creepy.
Honouring thy mother and father should have limits.
Um, hello, people - she's probably a LESBIAN. Taking your dad to the prom = no gross teenage boy pawing you drunkenly in a rented limo. Plus all the adults go, "Aw, how sweet" instead of "What's wrong with that Ashley? Why doesn't she get a boyfriend instead of hanging around with the girls on the volleyball team all the time?"
@13 -- "Love, Daddy" is from me! Glad you liked it.
It's only creepy if your mind is in the gutter when thinking about it. "Important high school event"? Please. "Socially maladjusted"? What high school kid isn't?
