Winning the War on Drugs

posted by on July 11 at 13:22 PM

In Toledo:

A man who was shot by police in a drug raid Thursday night around 11 p.m. in the 200 block of Wasaon near Western faces charges of drug trafficking.

Police Chief Mike Navarre says detectives from the vice unit and the SWAT team went to the duplex with a search warrant to look for drugs. The officers yelled “Police!” then went up to the second floor, finding the door open and a man inside holding a shotgun.

An officer fired on the suspect, Perry Buck, hitting him in the wrist. Buck was taken to an ambulance; we are told his injuries are not serious. He and a woman were both taken into custody.

Toledo police confiscated marijuana, a 20-gauge shotgun and shells and Vicodin from the residence.

Navarre says this is proof of the danger officers face every day.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … Tonight was just another example where the officers went in and looked down the barrel of a shot gun. We’re very fortunate that no officers were injured tonight,” Navarre said.

Indeed, police got the pot and the painkillers and no cops were hurt. Another success.

What sort of fucking idiot grabs a shotgun when the police kick down his door? The fact that he was shot is his own fault for being a retard.

@1) It's the sort of "idiot" who is woken up in the middle of the night to hear people running up his steps and doesn't know they are cops. A lot of raids are conducted by unmarked officers, who don't announce themselves or announce themselves from outside, and the person asleep on another floor doesn't know what the fuck is going on. So they react the way most sane people would when they hear intruders--they grab a gun and wait in the bedroom, where they're shot. This happens every week.

Whew! So glad that they got off-scrip Vicodin off the street! It was worth shooting a guy in the wrist for, surely. Wasn't it?

They yelled "police" didn't they? It was the guy's own damn fault he got shot.

@4) They may have yelled "police," but maybe he was asleep and didn't hear them until they were coming up his stairs. Or maybe they didn't yell anything at all--impossible to say. But if it's anyone's fault, it's the police. There's no logical reason for a fllet of armed cops to raid a man's house for a bag a pot and some painkillers.

No, Dominic's right.

This is why No Knock Warrants are dangerous in a democracy, and why most old people should make sure the first cartridge in their shotgun is rock salt, not a polycore round.

Now that the guy has been shot he probably been given more Vicodin...maybe he can sell it for bail money.
